CHURCHBURN Slow Down The Groove; Bring The Heavyness

churchburn

Dave Suzuki was one of the founders of Vital Remains, back when they were relevant. He quit the band a few years ago, and disappeared from the scene. His presence was missed, as were his blistering leads and crushing blasts. The guy was a death metal virtuoso. He has recently resurfaced in a new project named Churchburn. With a name like that, I'm already on board! (more…)

Reviewing The Iron Will Tour (Kataklysm, Vital Remains, etc)

Iron Will Tour

The Iron Will Tour has come off its Canadian leg to violently penetrate America with dose after dose of death metal. I drove up to St. Paul in the rain and then in circles downtown looking for a place to park, but I persevered, and made it to Station 4 in time to catch opening act Rose Funeral.

I wasn’t sure how this lone deathcore band would fit on a tour of death metal heavyweights. But when the band launched into their set, they proved themselves with a fury. Vocalist Ryan Gardner made several obscene stroking gestures which the crowd seemed to appreciate. “You know all the controversy, breakdowns versus solos,” he said. “Fuck all that. We’re here to play music. Even for zero dollars, we’re happy to be here and play you motherfuckers.”

Kataklysm Origin Fleshgod Apocalypse Vital Remains Rose Funeral

Montreal death metal masters Kataklysm have been holed up in a studio recently working on a new record, which means the band hasn't done much touring this year. That all changes in August, when the band will hit the road as part of the Iron Will tour. They are taking out some seriously heavy openers in Origin, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Vital Remains and Rose Funeral. Man, going on after Vital, Fleshgod AND Origin? Kataklysm are not making it easy for themselves. Here are the announced dates: (more…)

CANNIBAL CORPSE, DYING FETUS, VITAL REMAINS, DEVOURMENT join forces for most vulgar sounding tour package ever

Holy crap! This may be the most awesome extreme tour, maybe ever? CANNIBAL CORPSE, DYING FETUS, VITAL REMAINS and a dash of DEVOURMENT. How could this tour be any more extttreeemeee? I have no idea. The upside (for me) is this package is coming to NYC. The downside, it's only a two week trek, so some of you might be a little bummed. If you are one of the lucky ones who will get this tour, you will have no excuse to skip out on these shows, unless you are not into face raping, brutal death metal. Here are the dates: (more…)

SUMMER SLAUGHTER 2010 – An Old School Death Metal Fan's Review

We sent old-school death metal fan James Zalucky to the NY stop of the Summer Slaughter tour to get an old school fan's perspective on what is mostly a new-school metal tour. The following is his report from the pit, not to be confused with Rob's recap from the pot-laced backstage area.

I went to Summer Slaughter for two reasons: Decapitated (duh) and to check out bands who I didn't know very well. Other than Decapitated, The Red Chord, and Vital Remains, most of the bands were new to me, and I've always thought that the best way to evaluate a band is to see them perform live. There are so many bands out there, and sometimes you're just too busy to listen to all of them, so here was a good chance to make up for it. My buddy Clay, who knew none of the bands at all, came with me to see if he saw anything he liked. For the most part, I'd have to say the night was a success (I'd forgotten how small Irving Plaza was), with some pretty amusing stories attached, which I'll share with you here. (more…)

PESTILENCE Posts New Track on Myspace

By: Navjot Kaur Sobti

Igniting the legendary death and thrash sectors of metal in 2010, a seeming period of nonstop metal resurrections, is the re-emergence of Pestilence. Set to hit the stages this coming summer, after almost 15+ years of silent repose– zero tours or releases – the group broke their silence with 2009’s Resurrection Macabre, and just recently, with a new track, entitled “amGod.” An early rehearsal recording, featuring just “drum and guitar parts,” the band wished to share a small piece of their upcoming release, which is due later this year.

MORBID ANGEL'S Current Drummer Will Not Partake 2010 Tour Due to Back Surgery

By: Navjot Kaur Sobti

From Altars of Madness to Heretic, if one thing is clear, it’s that Floridian death metal godfathers Morbid Angel have kept and intend to keep the momentum going with years of consistent, crushing extreme metal outputs. Over 20 years since their conception via Trey Azagroth in 1984, and with a history of constant line-up chances analogous with the early Turkish empire, the band hit the studios in 2009, slating the release of their ninth studio album for late-2010 (by way of Seasons of Mist Records). Bringing the classic and new tunes to fans, the band was dead-set and ready to hit the road for a 2010 tour for the unnamed and up-and-coming release, but it was just yesterday that they announced that drummer Pedro 'Pete' Sandoval would be unable to play his percussive part, citing “back surgery” as the cause. PESTILENCE announce U.S. Tour with VITAL REMAINS, WARBRINGER

More than a few metalheads were bummed when Pestilence couldn't make it to the Maryland Deathfest last year. Looks like the band is planning to make that up that date this year, and even head out on a full U.S. run, their first in 16 years. It all starts at this year's MDF on May 30th after which the band will be joined by Warbringer, Vital Remains, Enfold Darkness and . Here are the announced dates: (more…)

DEICIDE Hit the Road With VITAL REMAINS, ORDER OF ENNEAD, ADRIFT

As previously reported on Metal Injection, Deicide are touring with Vital Remains next month, and have released several more dates of the monthlong jaunt.

My immediate reaction to hearing that Deicide (one of the bands that first got me into extreme metal) was FINALLY touring the States again was, "Awesome!"

Once I looked at the tour dates themselves, it changed to – "Goddamn you Deicide, why do you REFUSE to play anywhere convenient? Philly, NYC, Baltimore, take your pick. The fuck is this Farmingdale shit?"

Then, when I looked at the rest of the bill, it shifted a bit to – "Well, that's pretty nifty."

This tour is basically a "Deicide and Friends" extravaganza!

Check it out: Deicide is Glen Benton, Steve Asheim, Jack Owen, and Kevin Quirion. Vital Remains started out with Glen singing, and now after a number of lineup changes and various reshuffling, the band is made up of Tony Lazaro and, er, some other dudes (details about who's actually in the band nowadays are a little fuzzy. Last I heard, it was a couple teenage shredders?). Order of Ennead is Steve Ashiem's sick new black/death metal band (that features, yup, Kevin Quirion on guitar), and Adrift is Jack Owens' hard rock-based side project. Talk about a family affair!

Deicide will probably be playing tons of new stuff, but their last few records were pretty badass; as long as I get to hear 'em play "When Satan Rules His World" and "Once Upon the Cross," I'll be happy. This one's worth checking out, for sure.
