THE MELVINS To Play 51 U.S. Shows In 51 Days

Melvins-Band-Photo-2

The Melvins are looking to make history by setting the Guinness World Record for the first band to play all 50 U.S. states and Washington D.C. in 51 days. That is literally one show every day in a different part of the country. Anyone who has been on tour knows just how easy it is for something to go wrong: van troubles, venue changes and more can pop out of no where literally leaving you stranded on the side of the road, not to mention the physical toll of performing every night.  (more…)

MelvinsVSUnsane

SLAYER To Play Reign In Blood In Full At U.K. Festival

Slayer perform Reign in Blood in full

Damn you Brits! I am so jealous right now. Slayer announced their first official gig of 2012, and it's a big one. The band will be playing All Tomorrow's Parties' second "I'll Be Your Mirror" festival, which is held over three days, May 25th – 27th, 2012 at the Alexandra Palace in London. The kicker? The band is promising to play their landmark classic, Reign In Blood in full at the show. The cherry on top? Their openers will be Sleep and The Melvins. So to recap, Sleep, The Melvins and Slayer all in one night! That is an unfuckwithable night of metal if you ask me. The other two nights will be headlined by Mogwai and Guided By Voices. If you're in the UK, you have no reason not to attend this show. I would!

MASTODON Releasing Live Album In March

We already know Mastodon is writing a new album but I guess somebody at their label is getting impatient, and I don't know, maybe feels people would somehow forget about the band? That's why the band will be releasing a live album titled Live at The Aragon, (taped at Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom in '09), due March 15th.

MetalSucks just confirmed the news that it will be a "12-song CD/78 minute DVD set, featuring Crack The Skye in its entirety, plus performances of songs from Blood Mountain and Leviathan" and for an added bonus, a cover of The Melvins' track "The Bit." While I love the band, and look forward to any material they put out, after seeing the band multiple times on the Crack The Skye album, I don't know how excited I can be for a live album worth of tunes, because the band simply can't pull off the vocals live. Maybe there will be some studio trickery to fix it, I guess we'll have to wait and see.

CD review: JULIE CHRISTMAS, The Bad Wife

By Ben Apatoff

JULIE CHRISTMAS could sing a bus schedule and make it sound compelling. On The Bad Wife, her solo debut, she roars, wails, coos, shrieks and croons with more guts and versatility than any singer this side of CHRIS CORNELL, making every lyric matter in a way that metal records almost never do. Featuring her bandmates from MADE OUT OF BABIES and SPYLCAOPA (including CANDIRIA's JOHN LAMACCHIA,) The Bad Wife is just as vital musically, creating an arresting blend of sludge metal and experimental rock that deserves to be heard by anyone with a pair of ears. Audio Roundup: New Music From THE MELVINS, MYCHILDREN MY BRIDE, Scott Hull

It's Tuesday and for the first time in a while, there is no LOST on tonight. I guess I'll just have to listen to new music from these artists…

You can grab a taste of weird via a brand new track from The Melvins. Noisecreep is hosting a stream of the track "The Water Glass", which features a military march interlude. If it weren't weird, it wouldn't be The Melvins.

MyChildren MyBride have posted "Crimsom Grim" to their MySpace page. I sampled the track and reached a breakdown within 30 seconds of the start of the song. That's always a plus.

Haste The Day have posted a new track to their MySpace page as well, "Dogs Like Vultures", which wastes no time and just starts right off with a breakdown.

Finally, for those of you who want less breakdowns and more grind, new samples from Scott Hull's upcoming grind compilation This Comp Kills Fascists Volume 2 have been made available. Do you really need me to tell you this shit sounds awesome? It's Scott FN Hull!

Go See This Fucking Band

THE MELVINS show everyone else how to play an album in its entirety

The increasingly popular trend of bands playing an album in its entirety can be an awesome way to hear their best songs, a confirmation of the band's current irrelevance or both. Ever the iconoclasts, THE MELVINS' recent performance of 1993's Houdini at Webster Hall was neither, and it set a high standard for every band that does this from now on. (more…)
