Metal Injection sent roving reporter Chloe Scannapieco to Sonisphere UK last weekend, and she came back full of great memories of seeing Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax, Mastodon, In Flames, Slipknot, Volbeat, and others. We asked Chloe to write a blog about her journey and here is her recap of her expereinces in a field in the UK with a bunch of sweaty metalheads. (more…)

SLIPKNOT Confirmed As Headliners For Sonisphere UK 2011

What an eventful week for Slipknot and their maggot fans. First, Joey Jordison gave an interview where he said the band has begun work on new material and should be playing shows soon, not a day later and Corey Taylor denied Jordison's claims of new material, saying he hasn't worked on any and has no plans to, but would be open to playing shows.

Add more fuel to the fire, the official website of the Sonisphere UK festival has confirmed that Slipknot will be the headlining act of the fest which runs three days from July 8-10, 2011. If Jordison's comments are to be believed, the band will be playing as an octet, with a session bass player playing behind the stage next to Jordison.

Corey Taylor also checked in to Twitter with a few tweets confirming the reports that the band is playing Sonisphere: (more…)

How did I survive Sonisphere, UK 2010?

Our British correspondent (yea, we got one of those) Nina Saeidi attended Sonisphere UK last weekend, and it took her a few days to recover from her massive hangover before she could write up this report…

The first weekend of August saw the grounds of the more than respectable gem of Britishness that is Knebworth House turn into a tent strewn campsite ridden with disorderly metalheads and empty cans of lager. With a line up that boasted Iron Maiden, Rammstein and Alice Cooper, the beer soaked soil of Knebworth became significantly holier as the weekend progressed. There are few places where one can swig fresh Jagermeister whilst watching people injure themselves in a mighty Slayer pit before being chased around by a sadomasochistic cross dresser on stilts. METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH, ANTHRAX to play together on one stage… in Europe

sonisczech2

You know, I consider myself really lucky to have grown up in New York. It's a prime market, and we get a lot of metal shows that come through here. But god damn, do I wish I lived in Europe sometimes for lineups such as the one in the flyer above. All year we've been yapping about the Big Four and if they will be touring and saying how it could never happen. Well, it is happening and one fine European festival organizer is making it happen, with the Sonisphere series of festivals. Also, the Czech Republic gets Heaven and fucking Hell AND Mastodon too? Reee-dic-u-lous! The four bands will play two of these festivals together, the Czech Republic (as shown in the flyer above) and three days prior on June 16, 2010 in Poland (without Heaven and Hell but with Behemoth). Wow! More info on the Sonisphere festivals can be found here. If only they could do this in the states, damn it!!
