It's mid-week and there is a ton of new music out there, so get your ears ready, cause it's time to rock!
Let's start with a new Trivium track titled "Inception Of The End." I really dig this straight up heavy metal tune, and longtime Trivium fans will too. Haters will continue to hate. In Waves hits stores August 2nd on Roadrunner Records. (more…)
This is a bit of sad news. Periphery have announced they are parting ways with guitarist Alex Bois. The band released a statement on their Myspace (people still use Myspace?!) page noting that they are parting ways, but will still fill all touring commitments they have with fill-ins. Here is the official statement from the band: (more…)
Oh happy day! The Frak The Gods Tour, featuring Periphery, The Human Abstract, Textures & The Contortionist was announced a few weeks back, but no dates. Today, we have these dates and dates are a plenty. The tour kicks off September 3rd in Raleigh, NC hitting major cities all over (creeping in for stops in Toronto and Montreal) until wrapping up on October 8th in Baltimore. Here are the dates: (more…)
Woah! This is a monster tour announcement. Periphery announced their first ever North American headlining tour to go down between September 2nd and October 8th. The band will be bringing some shredders with them: The Human Abstract, Textures, and The Contortionist. I'm in! Unfortunately, no dates have been announced yet. We'll keep you posted but for now, perhaps this bit where Misha Mansoor met Metal Misha will hold you over.
This is pretty killer! Heavy Blog Is Heavy picked up on a post Sumerian Records' Facebook page, which has since been removed that stated "Sumerian Nation is coming later in 2011. An album made of collaborations of different Sumerian musicians. It's destined to be out of this world!" I'm already sold. (more…)

Wow, this week flew by completely. We're still catching up on life in the office after an insane few days at SXSW. In the interim, a lot of new music became available, that we may have missed. We decided to do a quick pre-weekend roundup of all the sweet free tunes available to make your weekend a little less lame: (more…)
If tech-nerdery is your thing, this tour is for you. Just announced is a North American tour featuring the fine djentlemen in Periphery, Fair To Midland and Scale The Summit. All very good bands who know how to play their instruments. The tour kicks off on March 3rd in Houston and wraps up April 15th on Oklahoma. Here is the full routing: (more…)
Two audio roundups in just as many days? Must be a good week. Today, we go a bit more underground with new tunes from Trap Them, Electric Wizard and Lazarus AD. Also, we'll tell you about a pretty sweet little side project from one of the guitarists of Periphery. Let's get this roundup started:
Lazarus AD just posted the first behind the scenes clip from their album recording on this very site. It doesn't stop there. The band has posted the title track off their upcoming release, Black Rivers Flow on Noisecreep. The album hits stores February 1st.
Trap Them are back with new music! BrooklynVegan premiered the track "The Facts" yesterday. It sounds rather awesome. And why wouldn't it? Behind the board was one of my favorite producers around, Kurt Ballou. Darker Handcraft comes out March 15th on Prosthetic.
If you just woke up (it's 1pm man) and took a giant hit of your resinated bong, then you should check out the new Electric Wizard tune which was just posted on Sterogum. If you're a stoner and don't know about this band, you're not a real stoner brah!
Finally, for something a little different: Jake Bowen, guitarist of Periphery has posted a track he was working on for an electronic/dub side project. Definitely some interesting stuff worth checking out if you're into that sort of stuff.
Veil of Maya's Marc Okubo and Periphery's Misha Mansoor (not to be confused with Metal Misha) are not only two incredible shredders, but they are also two of the most "real" people in metal. They love it and just want to have a good time. So, the folks at Guitar Messanger had a brilliant idea to have the two dudes interview each other. They talk about how they write guitar parts, and their techniques, going back and forth giving advice. It's really a great interview with gear-geeks. Watch part two after the jump… (more…)
We have just posted a very sexy photo gallery by our snapper Chris of Darkest Hour, Veil of Maya, Periphery and Revocation, over 300 photos in total. Click on the band you'd like to see photos of for their respective gallery. Also, check out the Legacy Tour special of the FiX where each of these bands pick one of their favorite videos for your viewing.
Here is a video of Darkest Hour guitarist Mike Schleibaum and Periphery guitarist Misha Mansoor just shooting the shit and shredding their pants off. This video was shot to help promote the upcoming Legacy tour which will feature Darkest Hour, Periphery, Veil of Maya and Revocation, which is an absolutely STELLAR bill which we look forward to seeing. Meanwhile, enjoy this video above. I really dig the jam these two pull off at the end, should be a fun tour.
Periphery surely have a lot of fans who are A/V nerds. It comes with the territory. So it should shock no one that one such fan has a bit too much time on his hands. Enough time in fact, that they can re-edit a year old instructional video the band produced into umm something more? The result is a trippy one minute piece you see above. Junkies with a history of seizures may want to avoid the clip.
You can catch Periphery this fall on the Legacy tour with Darkest Hour, Veil of Maya and Revocation.
Woah! Talk about a sweet tour. The Fall is looking like a great time to come out to shows, and this is definitely one show we will not miss. Veterans of the scene, Darkest Hour are celebrating 15 years in the game with this Fall tour, and they are bringing some young guns with them. Veil of Maya will be direct support, and playing right before them are Periphery. These are two bands we have talked about and covered in great length on the site, so we don't have to tell you that is show is not to be missed, if you need a little more djent in your life. Here are the dates: (more…)
Thrash & Burn is back for another year, and this edition's lineup is diverse to say the list. The show is set to be headlined by Asking Alexandria, Born of Osiris, Kittie and Stick To Your Guns with support coming from Impending Doom, Through The Eyes of the Dead, Evergreen Terrace, Periphery, Greeley Estates, Motionless in White and Chelsea Grin. There are certainly some bands in that lineup that we always enjoy seeing, and some who we don't. We'll let you figure out which are which. Is this a show you are looking to hit up? Here are the dates: (more…)
Over the weekend, three awesome bands decided to give you a sneak peek of music they will be putting out very soon via album streams. Here is a nice lil roundup to get you up to speed:
WHITECHAPEL have released a taste of their forthcoming release, A New Era of Corruption. The track is called "The Darkest Day of Man" and may just be the best WC song I have heard yet. The song sounds heavy and crunchy and flows really well. Check it out for yourself on their MySpace page. The new album hits stores June 8th. Make sure to check out the studio reports the guys have been submitting as well.
Another release we can't wait to hear is the new album from PERIPHERY. The album comes out a week from tomorrow and to get the hype going, the band posted another new track on their MySpace page. The track is called "Insomnia" and it may leave you up all night because you will not be able to get the track out of your head.
Finally, MISERY INDEX have posted the first official studio track from their new album, Heirs to Theivery called Carrion Call on their MySpace page. I don't even have to provide any opinion because these guys are master craftsmen and always put out quality material. If the studio recording isn't enough, Metal Nick has two live bootlegs of new songs from the band in his channel.
