I recently got to watch the Sound City documentary, and it's a pretty great film, if you're a music buff. My favorite portion of the doc is the last act, where it's basically Grohl inviting all these people to jam with him for what would become the Sound City soundtrack, Real to Reel.

Trent Reznor is living the nerd dream. Sure, he's one of the coolest motherfuckers on the planet, but the dude is ultimately a nerd at heart. He likes playing with gadgets and video games, keeps up with rising computing technologies and yet manages to maintain his cool, marrying a smoking hot wife, having one of the best rock/industrial bands ever and now working completely on his own terms.

His next project is now known. Reznor has scored the new Call Of Duty: Black Ops II game. This won't be Reznor's first foray into gaming music, as he worked on music for Quake and Doom 3 and he's created an "aggressively sounding" track for the new video game. Not just anybody could pull something like this off, so I am definitely excited to hear the promised 6-CD score for the movie. I think it takes a lot of balls to cover Led Zeppelin. In my personal opinion, their songs are absolutely 100% perfect, so to alter them in any way and make it live up to the original is quite the task. I really need to stop watching awful award shows. I happened to be visiting my parents last night and assumed this would be a decent distraction from any interaction with them. Not. worth. it. The one bright spot of the award show was seeing Trent fucking Reznor and his partner in crime, Atticus Ross win an Academy Award. Trent Reznor… the dude who wants to 'fuck you like an animal' is an Oscar winner. Pretty surreal moment! While I personally thought that Hans Zimmer deserved the prize for his stellar work with the Inception score (fuck, there was nothing I didn't love about that movie), I still found myself very excited to see Reznor and Ross up there. Then again, the Three Six Mafia are also Oscar winners so maybe I shouldn't be that surprised.

To keep Trent in check, let's take a look back to a time before Nine Inch Nails. You think the Trent Reznor in the below video thought to himself, "One day, I will be an Academy Award winner!" (more…)
