New NACHTMYSTIUM Track, "As Made" is Catchy As Fuck!

Nach_AsMade_Cover

Nactmystium have posted their new track, "As Made" over at Invisible Oranges for streaming and it totally rules! I'm loving the industrial influence in the once strictly black metal band. With every new release, frontman Blake Judd and company make it harder to pigeon hole the band's sound.

The track will be a part of a limited edition 7", with only 500 copies being pressed, and will also feature a cover of the Joy Division song “The Eternal”, with vocals by Chris Connelly (Revolting Cocks, Ministry). You can pre-order it for six bucks at Century Media's e-store. It is officially released May 15.

All you Nacht fans, get excited because we will be posting some killer live footage of the band in the coming days.

NACHTMYSTIUM Recording New Album

Nachtmystium 2012

When Nachtmystium's 2010 release, Addicts: Black Meddle, Part II came out, it did not come out of rotation in my music player for quite a while. These guys know how to write awesome tunes. Since then, they've released a new EPs but never a proper follow up, until now. The band is currently in the studio recording a new album, Silencing Machine which is scheduled to be released on July 31st on Century Media Records. The band posted a statement on their Facebook page announcing the new album: (more…)

Announcing Our First Ever SXSW Showcase: SOUTH BY SOUTH DEATH (High On Fire, Darkest Hour, Nachtmystium)

South-by-South-Death-2012

We are so fucking excited to bring to you the announcement of our first official involvement in South By South West, by way of an official showcase we are throwing with our friends at MetalSucks and Metal Insider (and some help from Peavey, and ddrum). As you can tell by the super-sick poster designed by Mike Wohlberg of tFk! Illustration above, we are bringing the metal to South By on the first official night of partying for the music showcase, Wednesday, March 14th with the likes of  High on Fire, Darkest Hour, Nachtmystium, IntronautBlack TuskHoly Grail, and MonstrO. Seriously, is that a ridiculous line-up or what? It all starts at 7 pm on the patio stage at Barbarella on March 14th. This is a free showcase if you have an official badge or wristband, and limited tickets will be available at the door for purchase. It's going to be insane! Hope to see you there.

NACHTMYSTIUM Writing A New Record; Will Most Likely Be About Drugs

Looks like Nachtmystium are in the studio working on a new record. Frontman Blake Judd has been quoted as saying "The new record will have a very strong industrial influence in the vein of later-era Ministry, Revolting Cocks and Nine Inch Nails, but also a strong, depressive, old-school black metal influence." The band also has a split with Von in the works.

As for what the record will sound like, if a recent interview Blake Judd did with the site No Clean Singing is any indication, drugs will somehow be involved: (more…)

LEVIATHAN Frontman Charged With Sexual Assault

Wrest, or Jef Whitehead, as his mother knows him, the man responsible for Leviathan, as well as a contributor to SunnO))), Nachtmystium and Twilight is being charged with sexual assault according to a report in the Chicago Sun Times. The article does not paint a pretty picture:

Jef Whitehead, 42, allegedly choked and beat his 26-year-old girlfriend unconscious by banging her head against a wall above Taylor Street Tattoo and Piercing, 1150 W. Taylor, in the early hours of Saturday morning.

He also attacked her with a pair of scissors, it’s alleged.

When she regained consciousness she discovered she had been sexually assaulted with the tattoo tools, Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Tom McGuire said.

Whitehead then allegedly knocked her out again, McGuire said. When the victim woke up she was in the street outside the parlor, he added.

Yikes! I don't even know what to say. Obviously, dude is innocent until proven guilty. Whitehead is currently in police custody, being held on $350,000 bail.

10. Hour of PenanceParadogma

It seems like Italy has been stealing some Scandinavian thunder lately when it comes to breeding quality metal bands. Accompanying acts such as Fleshgod Apocalypse and Graveworm, Hour of Penance have been responsible for giving their boot-shaped homeland a reputation for more than just good food and women with mustaches. Hour of Penance have been shelling out some of the most aggressive and finely-crafted brutal death metal for over a decade, and Paradogma is no exception. (more…)

CRADLE OF FILTH announce early 2011 tour with NACHTMYSTIUM, TURISAS

This is certainly surprising. Cradle of Filth have announced a North American tour to kickoff February 1, 2011. Well, that part isn't surprising. What's surprising is that scene darlings Nachmystium as well as Turisas have been tapped to open for the group. I will wager that no troo Nachtmystium fan would be caught dead at a Cradle of Filth show, and I'm sure the band could care less. They want to attract new eyes, and playing in front of CoF fans will do just that. Cradle has become very entry-level black metal (moreso goth/glam lately), so Filth fans looking for that little something extra will find it in the openers. Turisas is also a bit shocking only because of the whole folk-metal thing, but they still put on an incredible show. This is certainly going to be one of the most diverse bills of 2011. Here is the current touring itinerary: (more…)

NACHTMYSTIUM announce headlining tour with ZOROASTOR, THE ATLAS MOTH, DARK CASTLE

Can I get a Fuck Yes? As we predicted on the Livecast last night, Nachtmystium are going out on a headlining tour! On the heels of their amazing new release, Addicts: Black Meddle II, the band recently opened for EYEHATEGOD playing about 30 minute sets and left me wanting much more. I will get my chance very soon. The band also announced some really sweet openers in Zoroastor, The Atlas Moth and Dark Castle (a two piece that should definitely be checked out). Top to bottom this is a fantastic bill. Here is the routing: (more…)

CD review: NACHTMYSTIUM, Addicts: Black Meddle Pt. II

by Graham "Gruhamed" Hartmann

“Cry for help.” A single drum sounds, echoing into nothingness. Time after time it comes, foreshadowing the dark and depraved auditory assault, which has yet to begin. The bell of a cymbal is heard in the distance, responding to the echoing drum. The band is patient and allows the moment to fester as guitarist and vocalist Blake Judd enters. He begins to recite letters, slowly delivering the album’s opening cryptic phrase:

N-O-T-H-I-N-G-H-U-R-T-S-M-O-R-E-T-H-A-N-B-E-I-N-G-B-O-R-N

The echoing drum subsides, and NACHTMYSTIUM’s highly anticipated Addicts: Black Meddle Part II begins.

“High on Hate” picks up right where the band left off from Assassins; fast, dark and atmospheric. The song nihilistically dismisses their status as black metal heroes while almost proving it simultaneously. (more…)

Hear more new music from NACHTMYSTIUM

I was gushing over the new Nachtmystium album a few days ago and we gave you two songs you could have sampled to see what I was talking about. Now, our Bro-vatars over at Metalsucks inform me that there is an e-card for Addicts: Black Meddle II where you can listen to (my favorite track) "Nightfall" and "Blood Trance Fusion." Get ready, this is some of the catchiest black metal you will ever hear!

Your first taste of new NACHTMYSTIUM [UPDATED]

We were given an advanced copy of Nachtmystium's upcoming release, Addicts: Black Meddle Pt. II and I got to say, it's pretty fucking awesome. Frontman Blake Judd straddles the line between black metal and indie rock. You might be saying, uhh what line? But somehow, he has found it, and has created a brutal album that hipster beardos certainly show their friends who prefer the smooth sounds of Interpol. The reason I mention this is because the band has decided to start playing new material on the road, including at Roadburn festival which happened earlier in the week in the Netherlands. A fan with a shitty cellphone camera hit record and PRESTO your first, low-fi taste of an album that you will definitely enjoy if you're a Nachtmystium fan. UPDATE: Newer pro-shot footage has sufraced:

MARDUK, NACHTMYSTIUM & more bring the plague to Minnesota

By Ryan Buege

After being held off of the MAYHEM's Metal Injection-sponsored Blackenedfest tour due to visa issues last year, MARDUK finally returned to North America last month for a Metal Injection-sponsored tour of their own! Now coming to the country under the banner of their U.S. Plague Tour, the conditions in Minnesota have turned much colder, snowier, and harsher since those scheduled dates in July – yet I guess the frigid atmosphere is all the more appropriate for a show featuring some of the some of the finest names in modern black metal. The recent release of MARDUK's bleak and bludgeoning new album Wormwood was surely a drawing point for most of those in attendance, and there's no doubt that everyone who attended left satisfied by the loud, oppressive explosion of hate that MARDUK unleashed.
