So here I am back at Station 4 in St. Paul, waiting in line to be conquered by some of the finest metal bands that Greece, Brazil, Jerusalem, Canada Rome, and Colombia (via the US) have to offer. Three patch-vested teenagers who reek of B.O. are doing their best Beavis & Butthead impersonations behind me and commenting like women on everyone’s choice of metal T-shirts, and making fun of same. I think back to my own Beavis & Butthead phase with a mild sense of shame. Did I really behave this way with my friends at metal shows? O God I did—but fortunately the line starts moving and I don’t have to think about my teenage years for long. (more…)

by Ben ApatoffSo whom do the gods detest? Probably not NILE fans, who this year got a KARL SANDERS solo project and now a new Nile album, entitled Those Whom the Gods Detest and due for stores November 3.
2. "Hittite Dung Incantation"
3. "Utterances of the Crawling Dead"
4. "Those Whom the Gods Detest"
5. "4th Arra of Dagon"
6. "Permitting the Noble Dead to Descend to the Underworld"
7. "Yezd Desert Ghul Ritual in the Abandoned Towers of Silence"
8. "Kem Khefa Kheshef"
9. "The Eye of Ra"
10. "Iskander D'hul Karnon"
How can you not get pumped for a Dung Incantation? Nile also have a headlining trek scheduled for early 2010, with IMMOLATION, KRISIUN, ABIGAIL WILLIAMS and DREAMING DEAD in tow. You need to be there.
They've got a new album in the works and a recently solo project from KARL SANDERS, but I'd say that the most exciting thing going on in the NILE camp is their upcoming tour, which brings along IMMOLATION, KRISIUN, ABIGAIL WILLIAMS and DREAMING DEAD. Of course, it doesn't start until 2010, but now you have more than new DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, ZAKK-less OZZY and the economy still sucking to look forward to in the new decade. Dates are after the jump:
DESTRUCTION and KRISIUN played a show at Station 4 in St. Paul on Friday, March 13th, a small festival of all things metal. Unfortunately, I missed MANTIC RITUAL and a whole slew of awesome local thrash, grind and death metal due to a prior engagement, but the show that Krisiun and DESTRUCTION put on to close the night made my trip to St. Paul from Minneapolis more than worth it. The Brazilian death metal trio of brethren known as KRISIUN played their revered brutal death metal to perfection, drawing material mostly from their newest high quality albums. Songs such as “Bloodcraft” & “Combustion Inferno” threw the tight knit crowd into a frenzy that was very deserved, given the massive, spectacular sound coming from the stage. While I admit I’m not as familiar with the German thrash legends in DESTRUCTION as I am with many 80s thrash acts, their show was very, very awesome; no frills thrash metal at maximum headbanging velocity. Dates are remaining on this tour, and everyone is in top form; get out to it if you can, because these band’s deserve to be seen. Anyway, on to my brief set of photos from both the band’s performances.
The rest of the gallery and the remaining tour dates are all waiting for you after the jump! (more…)

A few months back, we teamed up with our bros at Metal Sucks to bring you folks a epic contest that we called the AMON AMARTH Viking Video Contest. We asked you to submit a one minute video of epic proportions to set to any Amon tune. Many entered, but in the end only one could stand victorious, and that one is a young chap named Christian who submitted this awesome video…
Christian will be walking away with the the ultimate Amon Amarth prize package featuring the band’s entire Metal Blade discography and recent DVD set (including their new record Twilight of the Thunder God, out now!)
Pissed that you totally spaced on submitting a video? Well, fear not! We are doing a new video contest. We are asking people to create a video for a brutal KRISIUN track. Click here for all the info.
KRISIUN – Brazil's reigning death metal elite – have an album on the way, and they have posted the a song from the forthcoming release online this week! Head over to their MySpace page to listen to "Combustion Inferno" from the album Southern Storm, which will be released on July 21st. If this track is anything like the rest of the album, Southern Storm will hold true to KRISIUN's well established reputation for their no frills, brutal as hell, groove laden, fuck you(!) style of death metal. In other words, it will be devastating.
In the eyes of many, KRISIUN are one of the most vastly underrated death metal bands today. Despite proving themselves in their homeland and receiving continuous praise from critics, they have yet to receive the kind of universal respect from the metal community that they truly deserve. KRISIUN's last album, 2006's AssassiNation, serves as an indication of the band's increasing ability to combine extremely catchy grooves with unbelievable technicality and musicianship. Hopefully with death metal's recent resurgence in popularity, Southern Storm will finally allow these brothers to finally gain the fruits of the kudos that they have earned over the course of the past 18 years. Check out the tracklisting for Southern Storm below, and hit the link below to listen to "Combustion Inferno":
1. "Slaying Steel"
2. "Sentenced Morning"
