Heavy MTL is the biggest metal festival to hit Canada. While in previous years, it was accompanied by a Toronto version of the festival, this year, it's all Heavy MTL… happening August 10 and 11 at Parc Jean-Drapeau in Montreal, Canada.
The lineup is usually a good indication of which bands will be on tour this summer, as it's very rare for a band to just book this festival. So let's take a look at who's touring this summer, via the fest's just announced lineup: (more…)
If you missed it earlier in the week, Halestorm won the lone hard rock/heavy metal award at the Grammys this past weekend. For some reason, metal musicians came out of the woodwork to complain about this, as if the Grammys have respected metal forever and suddenly decided to snub the genre. The most vocal was Shadows Fall drummer Jason Bittner: (more…)
Wasn't Rocklahoma a hair metal festival at one point? I guess the times change. Today, the promoters of the Memorial Day Oklahoma hoedown announced the lineup for the 2013 iteration of the festival and there are a lot of modern bands on there like The Sword, All That Remains, Alice In Chains, Asking Alexandria, Bullet For My Valentine and the headliners Guns N Roses.
The full lineup is actually not too bad if your tastes lean on the hard rock side: (more…)
The Grammys were last night, and if you didn't find yourself strapped down in an emergency room with the program on the television (because what other reason would you have for watching it), here is the recap of the lone heavy metal/hard rock award. (more…)

Alice In Chains have big things planned for 2013. Last week, they released the music video for their new single "Hollow", which is the beginning of the promo cycle for their new album, which should be announced soon and released in the coming months.
Now, dates are starting to surface for a full-scaled U.S. tour. Here are the leaked dates so far: (more…)
Is it that time of year already? The time when we complain about how incredibly out of touch the Grammy voting committee is with their nominations? I guess it is! (more…)
Lzzy Hale, and all of the rest of Halestorm couldn't be nicer when we met them on the black carpet of the Revolver Golden Gods Awards. They were completely humble and down to earth people, which is always nice to see. But Lzzy knows how to pose for a photo, and clearly the editors of Revolver are big fans as they have given her the cover of their annual Hottest Chicks In Hard Rock issue.
Also featured in the issue will be my favorite "hottest chick," Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil, Amy Lee of Evanescence, Maria Brink from In This Moment, the twins from Eyes Set To Kill and others. The issue hits news stands this Tuesday, September 4th. Here is what Lzzy had to say about being labeled a "hot chick": (more…)
Man is this summer getting crowded with touring festivals. Only two days after Ozzfest announced it's lineup, we see a brand new tour from the founders of Mayhem Fest, focused more on rock than metal. They are calling it Rockstar Energy Uproar and here is the lineup, spread across two stages:
Jager Second Stage
Hail the Villian
Overall, if you are into the less aggressive spectrum of metal (read:radio rock), this definitely seems like the festival for you. For me, again, this seems skippable. All three headlining bands will be promoting new Summer releases so this will be a big tour. Here is the current itinerary: (more…)
