SLAYER Enlist CANNIBAL CORPSE's Pat O'Brien To Fill In On European Tour
Looks like the Slayer All-Star Fill In Tour continues. You may recall Gary Holt was called upon to fill in for the injured Jeff Hanneman, recovering from a vicious spider bite. Turs out Gary needs to bail around April 4th for some Exodus shows, so Slayer enlisted somebody equally as adequate… Pat F'N O'brien of Cannibal F'N Corpse (and friend of Moscow Metal Minute). O'Brien will join the band starting with the April 6 show in Croatia. (more…)

SLAYER, ROB ZOMBIE, EXODUS join forces for "Hell On Earth" Tour
Slayer and Rob Zombie will co-headline the Hell On Earth tour this Summer, and they're bringing thrashin' veterans Exodus on the road with them. Both headliners will alternate who closes out the evening, with each band playing full headlining sets. I would like to think that Slayer booked Exodus as the openers as a thank you for Gary Holt filling in for the band last month. There was no mention of the health of Slayer in this press release, but it's safe to say they will be well rested by the Summer. Here is the shockingly short itinerary for the tour: (more…)

Gary Holt To Fill In As SLAYER's Guitarist
It was a bit of a bummer to hear that Jeff Hanneman would have to sit out Slayer's upcoming touring commitments after getting a spider bite infection. It almost felt like it shouldn't happen without Jeff, but I think the band has found a more than suitable replacement.
The band has enlisted founding Exodus guitarist Gary Holt, one of the true OGs of the Bay Area thrash scene to fill in for Hanneman. This situation has just went from negative to must-see. Gary will be playing five dates with the band in Australia starting February 26th.
If you live anywhere near one of these dates, go, take a camera with you and share your footage, you selfish bastard! Here are the dates:
Saturday 26th February – Brisbane
Sunday 27th February – Sydney
Friday 4th March – Melbourne
Saturday 5th March – Adelaide
Monday 7th March – Perth
CD Review: Nuclear – Jehovirus
by: Navjot Kaur Sobti
“The path to salvation is an excuse for aberrations:”
A warm welcoming note on the packaging of Nuclear’s Jehovirus. You could say I was further pleased to see that this pack of carnivorously misanthropic dudes hail from Chile: the cradle to some blisteringly anarchic and primitively brutal thrash. That snarky grin seemed about glued liked plaster to the corpse when the album opened with the epic bass lines and emotive riffs of “Belligerence.” Expecting some kind of explosion of tumultuous death metal sound (a clever but familiar pattern I may attribute to some of my favorite Suffocation or Hate Eternal records), I was met instead with such anthemic calls to blood-boiling thrash as “feel distrust, infect your mind, prepare bloodshed.”
Bridging into an all the more epic opening of “Criminal Solicitation,” for those of you anti-theists, vocalist Matias Leonicio is sure to provide a sufficient Nietzsche-ian dosage of God-loathing, organized religion crucifying criticism, so too hatred of the sheep born of the world he not too lovingly refers to as “a paradise of depravation.” “Acts of Depravity” displays the chops of this six-piece, with a smooth interplay between both guitarists and a gnarly solo to top off the already primal drumbeats.
There’s something to be said about the injections of melodic, near Gothenburg instrumentals in between the Exodus meets Slayer-esque thrash foundations of the tracks on this record; if there’s a stereotype that thrash has got to be a repetitive, mindless loop of 2-3 catchy riffs, testosterone anarchic-fueled lyrics, and the occasional solo, Nuclear breaks it seamlessly. Speaking of Slayer, if you’re looking for a track that screams out the traditional fury of our beloved LA-based and slightly balding legends, “Asphyxia” is your go-to. In the midst of the fury, there’s an upbeat energy to the track, that makes it palpable that in the midst of churning out the tunes, this is a band that knows their metal history, and was damn proud to be in the studio: contributing to its infamy with this 9-track exhumation of all things passionately and irrefutably metal.
EXODUS announce headlining tour with MALEVOLENT CREATION, HOLY GRAIL, BONDED BY BLOOD

You read that headline correctly! Exodus is going on tour again and they are taking out a band named after their first album release (Bonded By Blood). They have truly come full circle (or something like that). The tour will also feature Malevolent Creation and Holy Grail (no relation to Monty Python). If you are ready to get your thrash fix, this tour is for you. Here are the dates: (more…)

Brian Posehn to release second comedy album on Relapse
Brian Posehn isn't just "that gay dude" on the Sarah Silverman Program. He's a comedian, and a metalhead. And he's releasing his second comedy CD on Relapse Records. Here is the blurb:
Fart And Wiener Jokes, the follow-up to his is Live In: Nerd Rage debut, was recorded at various live gigs across the US during 2009. The record will also include two musical tracks, “More Metal Than You” and a cover of the Kenny Rogers classic “The Gambler”. Posehn recorded these songs with the help of a number of “metal” all-stars including Scott Ian (ANTHRAX), Jamey Jasta (HATEBREED, KINGDOM OF SORROW), Mark Morton (LAMB OF GOD), John Tempesta (EXODUS, THE CULT), Russ Parrish (STEEL PANTHER), and more. Fart And Wiener Jokes is set for an April 27th North American release date, May 3rd internationally, and is available for pre-order at this location.
Posehn is bringing out the big guns to guest on his album. If the above Slayer clip is any indication, this album is going to rule. Also, if you have been living under a rock and have never his Posehn's "Metal By The Numbers" video, I urge you to do so.
