The lord of all grimness interviews Exodus guitarist Gary Holt during their stop in Philadelphia during the Metal Alliance Tour. Featuring metal destruction from the mighty Vomitor, Bode Preto and Slayer. The Necrosexual is too brutal to own the rights to any of the clips he uses in this film. Filmed by Frank Godla. We just landed a west coast photographer by the name of Chris Sterffens and he has submitted his first gallery, the kick off show of the Metal Alliance Tour featuring Anthrax, Exodus, High on Fire and Municipal Waste. Check out the gallery here.
Yesterday, an interview with Exodus guitarist Gary Holt surfaced where he said he would absolutely not leave Exodus, and then shortly after Exodus announced they would be dropping off Maryland Deathfest for a personal matter.
It was easy to make the connection that the reason the band dropped off was because Gary might have had some commitment to Slayer, but that is not the case. (more…)
Slayer is experiencing their fair share of drama right now. Beyond just having contractual disagreements with Dave Lombardo, original guitarist Jeff Hanneman has not been in the band for two years. And, it looks like he might not be coming back.
Gary Holt, Hanneman's fill-in has been with Slayer during that time and many are questioning Holt's commitment to his original band, Exodus. Holt says he isn't going anywhere. (more…)
Each week on ‘Throwback Thursday’ we dust off a crucial but underrated album, without which heavy metal’s evolution would have turned out quite differently.
This week we slam-dance with an album that by all rights should be overlooked by no one (but somehow still is) due to its central role in the Bay Area thrash metal scene: Exodus' conclusive sonic document of the style, Bonded by Blood. (more…)
Not this again! A few months back we couldn't believe that Machine Head were barred from playing the Orlando House of Blues, which resides within Disney World due to a ban by Disney. Now it's happened again with Exodus. (more…)
When the New England Metal and Hardcore Fest announced their initial lineup a few weeks ago, it was already unfuckwithable. Anthrax (playing Among The Living), Opeth, Suicidal Tendencies, Hatebreed, Exodus, Shadows Fall…and others were already enough to get me excited.
Today, they announced the addition of a few new bands, including The Dillinger Escape Plan. (more…)
Whoa! This is a surprise. After spending the last two years filling in for Jeff Hanneman due to Jeff's nasty spider bite, Exodus guitarist Gary Holt looks to have bro'd down enough with Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo that the two have decided to start jamming on a new project. (more…)
Metal Alliance is coming back in 2013 for it's third year, and it's coming back with a vengeance. Already, they have announced that Anthrax will be headlining the show playing their classic album Among The Living, one of the best releases of 1987. Also announced were Exodus, Municipal Waste and Holy Grail, which was already enough to make this killer bill unmissable.
Today, High on Fire has been added to the bill. Holy fuck, is this show gonna rule. Dates have also been announced with tickets now on sale. Here is the routing: (more…)
The Metal Alliance Tour has been an excellent buffet of heavy metal every Spring, and next year year it seems like the buffet is getting a nice slab of classic thrash.
The initial 2013 lineup has been announced: Anthrax, Exodus, Municipal Waste and Holy Grail are confirmed. (more…)
METAL MASTERS 4 in New York City To Feature PHIL ANSELMO, KERRY KING, SCOTT IAN, DAVE LOMBARDO and more
The last time the Metal Masters got together it was the night after the Revolver Golden Gods Awards and there was a ton of jamming, including Pantera tunes and a surprise appearance by Geezer Butler for some Black Sabbath jammage. You can watch footage from that show here. Good news for metalheads in the tri-state area, The Metal Masters clinics are coming back to New York City!
On September 7th at The Gramercy, the metal elite consisting of Philip Anselmo (Pantera/Down), Kerry King (Slayer), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Scott Ian (Anthrax), Charlie Benante (Anthrax), Frank Bello (Anthrax) and newly added masters Billy Sheehan and Gary Holt (Exodus/Slayer) will be jamming out and spreading some knowledge. The way these have worked in the past, is a few of the masters come out for some playthroughs and some anecdotal advice for musicians and then it all gets bigger and bigger with a shit-ton of jamming, usually with an unannounced guest stopping by.
Tickets for the show are $29 after service fees and can be purchased here.
Of all the members of Metallica, I would probably want to hang out with Kirk the most. Mostly because he's a professed pothead, but also because he seems like the most down to earth member. If you asked me a few years ago, it would have been Jaymz, but at this point I don't know. Anyway, Hammett, being ever the cool one, decided to join his former band, Exodus on stage this past Saturday (February 4th) during a tribute to original Exodus vocalist Paul Baloff, who died ten years ago. A really cool and classy move from Kirk. Video of the jam on the early Exodus tune “Whipping Queen” can been seen above.
