A few months back, Suffocation frontman Frank Mullen revealed that due to commitments with his day job he would no longer be able to tour with the band full time. Mullen assured fans he's still in the band, he just has a family to feed and death metal doesn't exactly pay the bills. The band promised to move forward and a few weeks back locked in Dying Fetus frontman John Gallagher fill in for Mullen.
Much like many death metal fans, I was very excited about this. Now that the band's tour is underway, we have our first bootleg footage with John up front: (more…)

Seton Hall University's metal radio station, WSOU, is one of the last vestiges of heavy metal on free over-the-air radio. Many a drives around New York City have been saved by this station, blasting modern hits and old-school classics. But, if you've ever listened to the station, which is housed in a Roman Catholic university, you will realize they never mention the terms "God," "Satan," "devil," or any religious references.
God Forbid becomes G-Forbid is just one example. Now, a memo has leaked from the university staff of every band name you can't say over the air, and it's basically an episode of Death Or No Death. (more…)

2012 will not see end of the world, or extreme music for that matter. However, if this was the end of Metal and Hardcore as we know it, the year 2012 would make quite a grand finale. So many great records came out this year that I decided to stretch this article to a more obnoxious comprehensive list of 25. If it weren’t for the amazing power of Spotify, I don’t know how I would have kept up. As with my list last year, this list is unordered, as agonizing over competing slots for #9 and #10 would miss the point of the exercise. The point being: out of all the music I heard this year, the records listed below represent what I enjoyed the most. I hope some readers get some benefit from seeing this list and check out some records they may have missed, or that others will have some to name that I may have overlooked myself.
Hatebreed is not sitting around waiting for you to hear about their new album, The Divinity Of Purpose which comes out on January 29th through Razor & Tie. They're going to get out there and promote the hell out of it, with a pretty interesting lineup for a headlining tour. The band will be supported by Shadows Fall, Dying Fetus and The Contortionist. Do Shadows Fall fans like Dying Fetus? and vice versa?! This is a smorgasbord of heavy metal, and quite an interesting lineup. The tour kicks off days before album release, and wraps up on Feburary 17th. Here is the full routing: (more…)
