Phil Anselmo interviewed on the black carpet of the Revolver Golden Gods 2013. Watch all of our interviews from the Golden Gods
When you create something this fucking awesome, you have to give yourself some time to prepare. That is why details have been announced seven months in advance for Philip Anselmo's inaugural Horrorcore Horror Film Festival, which takes place this October in Austin, Texas.
Not only will Eyehategod and Crowbar be performing during the festival along with Down, Warbeast, and Philip H. Anselmo & the Illegals, but influential Mayhem frontman Atilla Csihar will be performing a soundtrack, so to speak, during a special screening of the silent film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Here's the full details: (more…)
Jamey Jasta posted the above photo on his Instagram page, of his Kingdom of Sorrow bandmate, Kirk Windstein and his new knuckle tattoo, and we couldn't agree more with the sentiment. Don't believe me? Slam these riffs: (more…)
Phil Anselmo keeps piling on the projects. He has a solo album in the works, his own record label, and now his own horror film festival. Anselmo just announced the Housecore Horror and Music Festival happening October 25-27th in Austin, TX at the Emo's complex. (more…)

If you saw Phil Anselmo in the early '00s with the grossly underrated Superjoint Ritual, it was not a pretty sight. The guy was on stage, high as hell, and rambling on about anything and nothing, talking shit on everybody. It was a dark time for Phil, who has admitted to using heroin, opiates and other pain medication in the past and with the death of his friend, Dimebag, he eventually cleaned up, and now only drinks alcohol and smokes weed.

I am pretty pumped to hear what Phil Anselmo has in store for the world with his upcoming solo project. Our first taste of the former Pantera and current Down frontman's new band will be heard in the form of a split with his labelmates Warbeast, entitled War of the Gargantuas which comes out this Tuesday, January 8th. 2012 will not see end of the world, or extreme music for that matter. However, if this was the end of Metal and Hardcore as we know it, the year 2012 would make quite a grand finale. So many great records came out this year that I decided to stretch this article to a more obnoxious comprehensive list of 25. If it weren’t for the amazing power of Spotify, I don’t know how I would have kept up. As with my list last year, this list is unordered, as agonizing over competing slots for #9 and #10 would miss the point of the exercise. The point being: out of all the music I heard this year, the records listed below represent what I enjoyed the most. I hope some readers get some benefit from seeing this list and check out some records they may have missed, or that others will have some to name that I may have overlooked myself.
That's a headline I never thought I'd write.
Former Pantera and current Down vocalist Phil Anselmo is an avid boxing fan. 50 Cent is a hip-hop superstar and also an avid boxing fan.
Just over five months ago Black Sabbath, the band who the term ‘heavy metal’ was coined for, played their first hometown show in Birmingham in thirteen years. Tonight, their friends and fans in New Orleans super-group Down, rolled into ‘The Workshop of the World’ as a headliner themselves, of a completely sold-out show and with support from comrades native to both the UK and the US respectively in tow. With Halloween around the corner, and Down in the dressing up mood in their most recent video for "Witchtripper", the band has launched a Halloween costume contest on their Facebook page asking fans to share their Halloween garb, with bonus points if you dress like one of the Down dudes from the video. The band promise to award three prize packs of Down swag, one to each of the following categories: scariest, funniest and best costume. Get to snapping and apply here.
The dates are set, Memorial Day Weekend 2013. The venue is now secured…it's at the former location of Sonar, basically the home of MDF the last few years and now the organizers of the Maryland Deathfest have confirmed the full lineup, and I have to say, the headliners are some of the biggest in the history of the yearly festival. Down, The Melvins, Converge, Carcass, Rotten Sound, Ihsahn, Venom and many many more have been confirmed for the weekend. Here is a full rundown of the lineup: (more…)
UPDATE: The video has been released and can be seen here.
Can Down just wear these outfits all the time? MetalSucks got their hands on some photos from the shoot for the track "Witchtripper" and look at these mofos, they look amazing. Kirk Windstein never looked better. Do you think he dresses like that regularly, and just showed up and the director was like "Oh, you're good?" That's what I'd like to think. After browsing through the photos, I found the scariest part of the shoot. Be careful, this next photo might haunt your dreams… (more…)
