ARGONAUTS Live Up To The Hype

YouTube Preview Image

I was so pumped to finally get to experience Argonauts live, a band who I've hyped up to ridiculous levels for myself, which of course features Dimitri Minakakis (formerly of The Dillinger Escape Plan), drummer Dave Witte and guitarist John Adubato (Burnt By The Sun) and bassist Brett Bamburger (East of the Wall). The band played at ABC No Rio, a DIY venue which is basically the equivalent of going to see a band play at their rehearsal space with 30 or so strangers standing right next to. I am saying this as a good thing, because this was the best way to first experience this band… and it was good. So good. (more…)

We were super stoked when news of Argonauts broke. For those of you who forgot, the band features Dimitri Minakakis (ex-The Dillinger Escape Plan), John Adubato (Burnt By The Sun guitarist), Dave Witte (Burnt By The Sun drummer, Municipal Waste) and bassist Brett Bamburger (East of the Wall). They played their first show at the GWAR-B-Q this weekend, and naturally there are live bootlegs. Check 'em out for a rough idea of what this band will sound like: (more…)

BURNT BY THE SUN To Play FINAL Final Show Ever!

Burnt by the Sun

When I saw Burnt By The Sun at what was billed as their "only" US reunion show in 2009 (our footage here), I was at peace with knowing this would be the last time I would see this incredibly crushing band. Well, looks like they are coming back for one final curtain call. The band has announced they will be playing their final show ever (stressing the finality of it) at the Studio at Webster Hall in New York City on July 20th. Harvest and Torchbearer will provide support and tickets are currently available. If you are a tri-state area resident, you have no excuse to miss this show. Seriously! Thank you Rich Hall.

BURNT BY THE SUN: Exclusive Live Footage Posted From Their Last U.S. Show Evaaar

A few weeks ago, we had the privilege of attending what very well could be the last BURNT BY THE SUN show on U.S. soil. Knowing this was such a monumental event, we had to tape some footage for you guys! The extremely-intimate (tiny as fuck) venue known as the Cake Shop was packed to the gills with Burnt fans ready to witness history. And, the band definitely delivered. We managed to capture the first four songs of their set. Check em out:

1/4 – There Will Be Blood
2/4 – Goliath
3/4 – Dow Jones and the Temple of Doom
4/4 – Forlani

New tracks from DOOMRIDERS and BURNT BY THE SUN posted (that you should probably listen to)

burntdoomriders

Two upcoming releases that I am very excited about are DOOMRIDERS Darkness Comes Alive and BURNT BY THE SUN's upcoming final release Heart of Darkness and so should you. If you don't believe me, you should check out these free streams that were just posted:

First up, DOOMRIDERS put up an e-card (over here) featuring two songs: "Darkness Comes Alive" and "Bear Witness". These are two songs we captured live when the band played Brooklyn a few months ago and they sound pretty killer as studio tracks. These guys are just so fucking great, I can't wait to hear the whole thing. Darkness Comes Alive is in stores September 29th.

Secondly, the final release from BURNT BY THE SUN is soon approaching and the band has posted new music on their MySpace Page. I got to preview the new record, Heart of Darkness via a press web-streaming and this CD makes me wish it wasn't this band's final recording. The CD comes out August 18th.

A/V Roundup: LAMB OF GOD, MASTODON, TOMBS, ZOMBI, BURNT BY THE SUN

Spin.com is hosting a stream of an unreleased LAMB OF GOD track, "Broken Hands" off their upcoming release, Wrath. If you haven't checked out the band's new video for Set To Fail, click here

MTV is all about MASTODON this week. They posted an in-depth interview with the band as well as part one in a series of studio updates from the band

In the mood for some sludgy post-metal? You can hear TOMBS' upcoming release Winter Hours in its entirety over at WinterHours.info.

Not to be outdone, ambient rockers ZOMBI are also streaming their entire new CD, Spiritual Animal over at spirit-animal.info

The first video journal of the recording process of BURNT BY THE SUN's final release, Heart of Darkness can be seen here. I am really pumped for this release.

BURNT BY THE SUN post new demo online

Can any of us really believe that it has already been 5 years since our friends in BURNT BY THE SUN presented us with a full album of new music? If you’re not aware of the last several years of breakup rumors and lengthy member searches, forget about it; there’s no need to worry, because as far as you’ll ever know, all is well in the realm of the grind-influenced metallic hardcore masters in BBTS (at least for one last album). Just last week, the recently revitalized band posted a new demo called “F-UNIT” online from their forthcoming album(!!!) Heart Of Darkness, and judging by the sounds of this song and the songs on their split with CAR BOMB that came out last year, they are even more pissed off than ever.

Although they have been pretty quiet for the half a decade, as this raw cut shows, the band hasn’t lost any steam. In fact, it would be hard to say that the rest of the metal scene has caught up with BURNT BY THE SUN at all during the last few years. I’m still listening to Soundtrack to the Personal Revolution and The Perfect is the Enemy of the Good quite often, and in all honestly, they sound much heavier and more vicious than 90% of the music that's been released by their peers since BBTS dropped their last album. Personally, I can’t wait for the new release any sooner, although it does make me a little sad to know that this has been revealed to most likely be their finale album. For now, I'm excited for spring 2009; this new track continues the tradition of the BBTS that I love exactly as I remembered – music that leaves me a bit more fearful for my life.

Head over to their official myspace to have listen to "F-UNIT" or play the video below to get a sneak peak at the new album!
