HEAVY MTL Lineup Gives You A Good Hint As To Which Bands Are Touring This Summer

HEAVY MTL 2013

Heavy MTL is the biggest metal festival to hit Canada. While in previous years, it was accompanied by a Toronto version of the festival, this year, it's all Heavy MTL… happening August 10 and 11 at Parc Jean-Drapeau in Montreal, Canada.

The lineup is usually a good indication of which bands will be on tour this summer, as it's very rare for a band to just book this festival. So let's take a look at who's touring this summer, via the fest's just announced lineup: (more…)

AT THE GATES' Anders Björler Scores Awesome Drummer For Solo Project

Anders Bjorler of The Haunted

When At The Gates and The Haunted guitarist Anders Björler announced his solo project, I was definitely interested in checking it out. After all, I respect what the man has done with his previous bands.

But now that Anders has announced who's drumming on the record, my excitement has reached new levels.  (more…)

Don't Hold Your Breath For A New AT THE GATES Album

At The Gates New Album 2012

Maybe we won't be seeing a new At The Gates album sometime soon. After the news broke that The Haunted are basically dunzo, and At The Gates frontman Tomas Lindberg was quoted as saying "never say never" when it comes to a new album from the melodic death metal pioneers, we got a little excited at the possibility, that mayyybe, just maybe we might hear some new riffs from the band.

But guitarist Anders Björler put that all to rest in a recent interview. (more…)

Anders Björler formerly of THE HAUNTED Working On A Solo Project

Anders Bjorler of The Haunted

A few weeks ago, we reported that The Haunted is basically over, with only two members of the band not officially quitting yet. Guitarist Anders Björler was the most shocking departure, as the band was basically his idea. Anders will keep busy in the coming months with some At The Gates shows, but for right now, he has a more pressing matters to attend to… a new solo album. (more…)

AT THE GATES Frontman: Never Say Never For A New Album

At The Gates New Album 2012

We were very excited about the At The Gates reunion a few years ago. Heck, the entire metal world was excited about. When shooting our On The Record documentary about the last decade in reunions, they were the band most frequently mentioned. The band has a few shows lined up this year, and with the news that came out earlier today that The Haunted is basically done (which featured the Bjoler brothers who are also in ATG), that begs the question: could there even be a possibility of a new album on the horizon? While it's something that frontman Tomas Lindering scoffed at in the past, now, he seems to have softened his stance a bit.

Peter Dolving Lashes Out At Former THE HAUNTED Bandmates; Says AT THE GATES Reunion Partially To Blame For His Quitting

The-Haunted

Ever since Peter Dolving quit The Haunted a few months ago, both he and the remaining band members have kept quiet on his departure. That was, until now. Dolvig unleashed on his former bandmates, namely twin founding members Anders and Jonas Björler. Among other things, he blames drug and alcohol dependencies and the At The Gates reunion tour as reasons for his departure. The whole tirade is certainly worth a read: (more…)

How important is it to go out on top?

By Ben Apatoff

Any metalhead with a computer knows by now that JUDAS PRIEST are planning their final tour. Of course these things are always dubious (although Priest seem more sincere than KISS,) and I expected to see a lot of arguing over whether or not HALFORD and the gang were actually putting the band to rest.

But all anyone seems to care about is "going out on top." As in, "It's a good thing that Priest are retiring at a point when they're still playing great shows and releasing good music." Or, "It's a good thing that Priest are retiring in time to stop embarrassing themselves."

So are the Metal Gods going out on top or not? Clearly, there's only one correct answer. (more…)
