A LIFE ONCE LOST Complete New Album

A Life Once Lost 2011

This is really great news! After over two years of writing and recording, A Life Once Lost has completed their new record, which will be titled Ecstatic Trance, via Season of Mist on October 23 in North America and on November 16 overseas. The band have been under the radar for the most part, popping up most recently doing a one month residency at Philly's Kung Fu Necktie. They will be back with a vengeance this fall. I saw the bands a few months ago, with their current lineup, and they sound as angry and hungry as ever. Crushing, in fact! This band needs to get back on the road and melt faces! I can't wait to hear their new material. For now, let's watch this old school clip of "Surreal Atrocities": (more…)

A LIFE ONCE LOST Sign New Deal, Lose Drummer

While we were away last week, our good buddies in A Life Once Lost had a very busy week. Early in the week they announced they have signed a deal with Seasons of the Mist to put out their record this summer. I think the label is a great fit for the band, with High on Fire, Dillinger Escape Plan, Cynic and Athiest being some of their labelmates.

Beyond that, the band also announced that founding drummer Justin Graves would be leaving the band to pursue goals outside of metal. Graves was one of my favorite drummers on the scene and it will be sad to see him go. Here is the official statement from the band about his departure: (more…)

Man, I was just randomly browsing our collection of live videos and I got up to this killer A Life Once Lost clip from a few years back and could not resist headbanging at my desk. These guys absolutely rip it live.

This is the main reason we booked them for our CMJ showcase on October 20th in NYC. If you're around, you definitely need to come and check this band out live. Beyond ALOL, there are a ton of other reasons to come to our showcase. In fact, my no-homo-broho Axl Rosenberg compiled a fancy list of 5 reasons why you should show up that's worth a read. Tickets are available for purchase on Ticketweb and are only 10 bucks.

Metal Stoner Jams To Safely Get You Through 4/20

Woah man! 4/20 just kind of sneaked up on us here at Metal Injection. That's because we treat every day like it's 4/20. We do not discriminate. Anyway, in celebration of the day where I guess we smoke a little extra ganja, here is a chronic-ready playlist of stoner jams to help you through today's festivities:

Let's start with Meshuggah's "Suffer In Truth" conveniently at a running time of 4:20 (at least the album version)

On top of all of that, we get a quick check-in from "Patrick Swayze". Don't forget, the Metal Injection Livecast is on at a new day and time, Wednesdays at 8pm Eastern. Don't miss it!

Rob's Funniest Interviews

A LIFE ONCE LOST teach us how to roll a European cone

Metal Injection has been going strong for 5 years now. I thought this would be as good a time as any to go back into our archives and pick out my top 5 favorite interviews that I have conducted. In the middle of the week, I'll post a few hilarious band on band interviews. Stay tuned all week for new updates!

It's always cool when a band that you are into turn out to be really awesome bros. Such was the case with A LIFE ONCE LOST. I remember seeing an interview the whole band did on Uranium and thinking wow, these guys are hilarious. I want to hang out with them. Sure enough, the next time they came around I scheduled an interview which ended up being the masterpiece featured in this post. We took over the backstage bathroom at a smaller former venue in NYC called the Knitting Factory during the Spring of 2006. This allowed everybody to just focus on the interview and the jokes. I love how "real" this interview is. I feel it is a true portrait of a band on the road. At one point, interview hit that mark where Snake asked the question: Why aren't we smoking weed? Which brings us to part 2 of this interview… (more…)

Metal Up Your Ass: TGINSPDA (Thank God It's Not St. Patty's Day Anymore) Edition

metalupyourassThere is a lot to be frustrated about today. The pope still thinks that condoms worsens the spreading of AIDS. A bunch of bumbling morons still wearing their kelly green t-shirts are hungover and more dangerous than yesterday. AND K-Rock ditched the bullshit hard rock to play Beyonce all day (I didn't believe it until I turned the radio on in my car on yesterday). But, at least the internet is as cool as a Nordic winter, with all its information sharing. So chill out and click away.

A LIFE ONCE LOST writing new music

I'm not sure how I missed this a few weeks ago, but A Life Once Lost are writing a new album. They issued the following update:

"We have been holed up in Freehold, NJ for the last two months starting to put together our next album. The vibe of this stuff is more of a throwback for us. We have come up with some seriously mind bending riffs and it feels really good so far. The recording is still a ways off as we are only a few tracks in, but expect nothing but a sick groove metal record. We will keep you guys informed on whats up and start filming some stuff to throw on our Youtube page. Get stoked for later 2009!"

It's no secret that ALOL are one of my favorite bands out today, so I'm definitely excited about this news. I doubt they will disappoint. Check out our copious amounts of ALOL footage to get you hyped up.

Quick Bits

ALOL Singer launches new band; UNEARTH almost finished with guitar tracking; First bands for MDF VII announced; Metal Monk

> A LIFE ONCE LOST vocalist Bob Meadows has launched a side-project called NO PEOPLE. The band is rounded out by Nate Localio (guitar) and Colby Chase (drums) of avant-metal band Jekylnhyde along with Philadelphia musicians Will Schaeffer (guitar) and Josh Gowton (bass) with a sound that can be compared to MESHUGGAH and DILLIGNER ESCAPE PLAN (so not too far from ALOL themselves). Check out the band's 4 track demo on their MySpace page.

> UNEARTH are currently sequestered System Recording Studios with producer Adam Dutkiewicz. The album's guitar tracks are near-complete and vocals are expected to be tracked next week. Expected release for the as-yet-titled recored is sometime in October. The band has been posting video updates on their MySpace page.
