John Carpenter is one of the biggest names in horror and sci-fi, but after nearly 50 years in film, Carpenter has embarked on one of his greatest triumphs yet!

His first full length album, Lost Themes, was easily one of my favorite albums of 2015 and prepared the world for the possibility of a live performance. To finally see this come to fruition in NYC on July 8th was not only a pleasure, but an honor to be in his presence. View our photos from the event here.

At 68 years old, Carpenter breezed through selections from his Lost Themes albums, and some of his iconic film scores such as Halloween, Christine, The Fog, The Thing and many more, along with his amazing backing band that includes his son Cody Carpenter.

The sold out crowd at Play Station Theater in NYC was a mixbag of every type imaginable, but with each gripping track that passed, it made me think how metal Carpenter really is. Partially due to his use of the devil horns, the attire, using gory scenes from his movies to enhance the aesthetic, or the fact he was crushing a performance in NYC as well as any rockstar I've ever seen. But more importantly, it's a testament to how influential Carpenter's DIY nature through out his career has been to many artists of our genre, myself included.

Without a doubt, John Carpenter's Live Retrospective was one of the best performances I've seen this year, and I'd happily do it again. Check out our photo gallery from the event.
