Quick Review: INTERNAL DEVOUR Doomed To Disembowelment

The Brutal Death metal scene seems to be taking over the Southern hemisphere on the other side of the world. Indonesia has been quite busy, and lately, some notable Australian based extreme metal acts are getting well known. Disentomb will be making their annual (seems to be now) trip to America, and now Internal Devour has desecrated the largest island in the world with their cesspool of blood and carnage (see the incredible album artwork) with their newest release Doomed To Disembowelment. If you enjoy slam, secure your trendy snap-backs because belched up debris left by the grooves and gutturals will dismantle anything in its path.

This three-piece demolition crew signed to Vicious Instinct Records (the label of Matt Turkington, who is also the killer vocalist) does a great job at balancing creative grooves with a vocal performance next to none. At first listen, it seemed like your average slam with a little more dimension than most bands, but the vocals are what kept me coming back. They give a distinct sound that didn't take me long to identify. They sound as if the mic was lined with intestinal membrane while keeping it moisturized with synovial fluid that had been procured from the discarded corpses of failed evil torture experiments.

The album as a whole though is only good. After all, slam does get old no matter how creative the writers get. Even in finding a solid balance of brutal death metal, you do get a more "core" feel overall which in the long run will affect the sustainability when it comes to extended listens. Internal Devour though seems to have a good grasp on what they are doing, and even through the gang chants and occasional break downs, they don't over stay their welcome.

So far, this has been one of my favorites when it comes to "juiciest" releases of the year, meaning the fermentation and bloated corpses excreting juices from non-anatomical holes in relation to heaviness. With songs by the names "Gagging On Aborted Mush", " Spitting Up Chunks Of Cunt", and "Bludgeoned To Paste", the band earns some heavy points just by tackling the tougher topics in life most people choose to ignore. Head over to Vicious Instinct Records and spend some Australian dollars on this album, and be sure to check out other albums in Vicious Instinct's innovatory. You won't be disappointed.

Score: 7/10.
