Rick Santorum Accepts MEGADETH Frontman Dave Mustaine's Presidental Endorsement, Three Years Too Late

Human UrbanDictionary definition Rick Santorum is making another run for presidency in 2016 and he's finally accepted Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine's endorsement, only three years too late.

You might recall during the 2012 elections, the Megadeth frontman had very positive things to say about Santorum:

"Earlier in the election, I was completely oblivious as to who Rick Santorum was, but when the dude went home to be with his daughter when she was sick, that was very commendable." Mustaine later added "You know, I think Santorum has some presidential qualities, and I'm hoping that if it does come down to it, we'll see a Republican in the White House… and that it's Rick Santorum."

Looking back, it's crazy to see who else was running at the time and what a shit show the Republican nomination was. I guess whatever press event Santorum was at today had a metalhead in attendance, because somebody asked Santorum if he accepted Mustaine's nomination. Santorum, who is vehemently anti-abortion for any reason, has staunch anti-immigration and basically every other ultra-conservative viewpoint you can imagine, had this to say when comedian Cinco Sanders asked him if he embraced Mustaine's endorsement:

"One of the things I learned a long time ago is that anybody that wants to support my campaign is free to do so. I used to say this a long time ago… When I started getting involved in politics, I would ask people why they were voting for me, and after doing that a few times, I stopped, because I realized you really don't wanna know. Sometimes people have the most interesting reasons why they support you. So [what you do now] is say thank you very much and you move on."

Further pressed on actually answering the question, Santorum added:

"I accept the endorsement."

You can watch the video below, and yes this is the same guy who asked Rick Perry what his favorite Metallica record is. So this guy is basically a fantastic troll.

Here's one problem with Santorum's acceptance of Mustaine's endorsement. Mustaine got so much bad publicity after endorsing Santorum in 2012, Mustaine quickly backtracked saying he never actually endorsed Santorum:

"Contrary to how some people have interpreted my words, I have not endorsed any presidential candidate," the rocker said in a release after earlier reports had him backing Republican Rick Santorum on Wednesday. "What I did say was that I hope to see a Republican in the White House. I've seen good qualities in all the candidates but by no means have made my choice yet. I respect the fact that Santorum took time off from his campaign to be with his sick daughter, but I never used the word 'endorse.'"

Too bad for Mustaine that a Republican did not get in the White House. Mustaine has since said he does not identify as a Republican or a Democrat, and when asked who he wanted to see elected as president next year, he wisely gave a vague answer.
