in memory of peter steele…48 years young

my path through metal has been far from arrow straight, and during the early-mid 90's every wednesday night i could be found haunting fx in san jose – south bay's premier (read: only) goth-industrial club. it was there i was first introduced to type-O, and while i was never a rabid fan i have always had a weakness for clever hooks in a song, be they musical or lyrical – and they had both (come on, 'kill all ze white people'?)
over the years i had seen peter in a variety of interviews and i have always appreciated his self-depricating manner. i think he had a great comic's sense of timing, and rarely seemed to shy away from involving himself as the butt of a joke. his vokill prowess was as unmistakable as his accent and manner of stringing words together was brooklyn bound. he never really xuded the rock-god attitude, even though he fronted inarguably one of the most popular goth/doom bands of all time; he came across as a genuinely down-to-earth person whose seeming sense about himself we could use more of in this crazy world

even within the metal community where there's far too mcuh focus on what is/isn't 'troo', steele was an honest xample of humaninity

simply put, he was one of us, and he will be missed
