Rodrigo’s Favorite Photos of 2018

Posted by on December 27, 2018 at 3:26 pm

Metal Injection photographer Rodrigo Fredes constantly delivers some amazing shots to our photo gallery. Today, he checks in sharing his favorite shots of 2018.

1- Machine Head at Play Station NYC Feb 09 2018

The last show Machine Head played with their current lineup in New York City, since Phil and Dave were leaving the band after this tour. I like the shadow that was produced by the back light. This was taken at the end of a song so the front light shut down keeping just the back light on for a couple of seconds. I didn’t have too much time to take the shot.

2- Gozu at The Gramercy Theater in NYC March 08 2018

I really enjoy the composition of this photo and how I captured them both in action.

3- Thy Antichrist at The Gramercy Theater NYC March 10 2018

This was not my first time seeing/photographing Thy Antichrist. In 2017, I took some photos of one of their shows in Brooklyn and I was really impressed with their performance and happy with the result of my photos. I knew these was a show that I couldn’t miss. Andres Vargas, the singer, said that it takes him 4 hours to finish all of his makeup before going to the stage.

4- Nightwish at Play Station Theatre NYC March 14 2018

Floor Jansen thanking her audience after a sold out show in NYC. The crowd, Floor looking as beautiful as ever, and the Nightwish logo in the background make this one of my favorite captures of this year.

5- Saxon at Nassau Coliseum Long Island NY March 17 2018

Biff with a perfect background.

6- Judas Priest at Nassau Coliseum Long Island NY March 17 2018

A perfect shot of the legend himself. It was really hard take a photo of Rob without his hands covering his face when he was singing. I like the colors and the photo in general and looks like he liked it too. He shared the photo on his personal Instagram, and Judas Priest did the same.

7- At the Gates The Fillmore Philadelphia March 31 2018

At the Gates closing the first night of the Decibel Metal & Beer Fest this year, showing their high energy.

8- Mayhem The Fillmore Philadelphia April 01 2018

A bloody Attila with Mayhem logo in the back.

9- Carcass The Fillmore Philadelphia April 01 2018

Carcass closing the Decibel Metal & Beer Fest. Sometimes my zoom lens is too close.

10- Leprous at Play Station Theatre NYC April 04 2018

Everything is better with a cello solo. Raph Weinroth is a guest musician for Leprous live. Their set was awesome but honestly not the best for photos since they don’t use too many lights on the stage, yet I was still able to capture this shot.

11- Steven Wilson at Play Station Theatre NYC April 29 2018

One of my favorite musicians and one of the best performances that I saw this year, they projected holograms onto the stage and the result combined with his music was fantastic. This picture was taken during the song "Pariah."

12- Slayer at Jones Beach Theatre NY July 29 2018

Every year Slayer makes my list of my favorite photos: last year a close shot of Tom with fire in the back, this year a wide shot with the full band and, of course, fire.

13- Judas Priest at Jones Beach Theatre NY Sept 01 2018

Richie Faulkner posing with great lights and horns up! Do I need to say more?

14-Deep Purple at Jones Beach Theatre NY Sept 01 2018

Don Airey in a kind of double-exposure shot. I love how you can see his hands in the back.

15- Moonspell at The Gramercy Theater NYC Sept 07 2018

Fernando Ribeiro in a wide angle shot close to my lens.

16- Stone Sour at Jones Beach Theatre NY Sept 08 2018

I wonder what Corey Taylor thinks of this picture.

17- Helloween at Irving Plaza NYC Sept 09 2018

Andi Deris and Michael Kiske singing together with Helloween, a dream come true for fans of this band.

18- Sólstafir at The Gramercy Theater NYC Oct 03 2018

I like the composition on this photo, It reflects how emotional their shows are.

19- Behemoth at Play Station Theatre NYC Nov 03 2018

Timing! I waited patiently for this shot.

20- Behemoth at Play Station Theatre NYC Nov 03 2018

It’s hard to capture this kind of photo, I’m glad that I finally did one.
