10 Great Metal Collaborations That Worked

2013 seems to be the year for side projects to rear their ugly heads. While some have been uglier than others like the Temple of the Black Moon, others have potential like Corrections House, Giraffe Tongue Orchestra, or The Devil You Know. Since finding new creative love is in the air, Metal Injection decided to take a look at a few of our favorite Collaborations/Supergroups/Side-project/whatevers.

Ayreon

Ayreon Arjen Lucassen has been on the metal scene in some form for over thirty years, but in 1995 Lucassen begat the first of many massive collaboration albums under the name Ayreon. Each album tells an incredible dense story with guest vocalists playing characters, and sometimes even emotions (see: The Human Equation). Guests and collaborations have included Devin Townsend, Mikael Akerfeldt, Ed Warby, Anneke Van Giersbergen, James Labrie, Bruce Dickinson and many, many more. Lucassen is set to release a new Ayreon album entitled The Theory of Everything later this year.
