Victory Records Is Now Suing One Band For $1 Million

Hmmm… could this start happening more?

Hmmm... could this start happening more?

This week we talked about Victory Records being in a little bit of a spat with Spotify over some unpaid royalties, which makes sense because getting paid for doing shit you're supposed to get paid for is generally how the world works. Based on the information that's been given to the media so far, I actually agree with Victory Records on that one!

Now the label is turning around and suing ska band Streetlight Manifesto for literally $1,000,000. So why the hell is this on Metal Injection, you ask? Because Victory Records seems to be on an insane spree of getting what it feels like it deserves and Victory Records has always been a massive point of contention within music… and another point I'll get to.

According to Courthouse News in a nutshell, the label is suing the band for delaying production on albums, performing and selling music under solo names, encouraging fans to steal its music and ultimately never fulfilling its contract for another record.

I think it's interesting that this is happening though. A lot of bands have spoken pretty negatively of the label and I'd imagine that once word gets around enough that you're terrible, people won't want to sign with you anymore. Is Victory doing this because they're running out of money and Streetlight seems like a good target?
