THE MARS VOLTA Reunites Under Their New Name ANTEMASQUE with Help from FLEA (UPDATED with Song!)

Excuse me while I fanboy everywhere.

Excuse me while I fanboy everywhere.

Update: The band just posted their first full track, 4AM. Here it is:

In January 2013, The Mars Volta broke up. Everyone was rocking a pretty substantial sad over it. Each member went off to do whatever they were off to do and it was basically understood the two founding members Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala hated each other at the time.

In March 2013, Rodriguez-Lopez said the band weren't technically broken up and he'd be open to working with Bixler-Zavala again at some point. Would you like to take a guess at to when that "some point" is? RIGHT NOW!

Oh man, I'm so excited to tell all of you that The Mars Volta are (basically) reunited under their new band name Antemasque! I use the "reunited" label loosely because I'm not sure that's what the band are going for with the new music or want it to be related to what they've done in the past. The lineup is obviously Rodriguez-Lopez and Bixler-Zavala, but with their former drummer Dave Elitch (Killer Be Killed) and bassist Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers). While Elitch toured with the band in 2009 and 2010, the thing that excites me most is that Flea is back working with the group once more. Flea played bass on the The Mars Volta's 2002 record De-Loused in the Comatorium and also recorded trumpet for their 2004 masterpiece Frances the Mute. So who knows what's going to happen with this!

Here's a teaser of the new stuff… kinda. Also, click here to watch a little rehearsal footage!
