Tech-Death Tuesday: THE ARSONIST’S DAUGHTER Channel Unnerving Chaos Into Sonic Gold on Mnemonist

Hey there tech fiends, it's that time of the week again. Before we dive into today's focus, here's the usual reminder that if you're looking for more sick music, all prior editions of this series can be perused here.

While it's not as prevalent now, I've always been a big fan of the early to mid-2000's mathcore mixed with tech death style. The byproduct of which is still a factor in the tech death world now on a ton of groups which includes Indiana-based group The Arsonist's Daughter. They've been active since 2004 and had dropped a demo in 2005 and 2006 EP prior to their newly released EP, Mnemonist which came out last month on August 1st. As is often the case, I found out about this band through checking out new release tags for metal on Bandcamp.

The closest thing I could compare this to roughly is Pyrrhon really, though there are a number of times the mercurial and chaotic style of Gigan also popped in my head while listening to this as did passages that reminded me of The Red Chord and Psyopus. The band cites the following influences from King Crimson, Suffocation, Bodies in the Gears of the Apparatus, Creation is Crucifixion, Cynic, Neurosis, Cephalic Carnage. That in itself really explains the kind of schizophrenic wide-ranging approach to technical death metal The Arsonist's Daughter is boldly crafting.

The title of the effort in itself feels possibly self-referential and a fitting tie into their sound as Mnemonist means someone with an exceptional ability to remember data, lists, numbers, names, sections of books, etc. Mnemonist makes the most of its mere three song volley in part by drawing strength from mathcore, grind, experimental electronic flourishes, and tech-death that leaves you wanting more.

A quick look at their Facebook mentions more new music is currently being written so that’s a good sign they're ready to keep things moving as a promising band I’d like to hear more music from. You can buy Mnemonist on their Bandcamp Page. Be sure to follow the band on The Arsonist's Daughter Facebook Page.
