GHOST Signs A Record Deal Reportedly Worth $750,000

Ghost-10

Sort of under the radar, Ghost have been involved in an intense bidding war. You would think the anonymous occult rockers would sign with a label more suitable to their demographic, like Metal Blade or Roadrunner Records, but the band decided to sign to Seven Four Entertainment. Most of you have never even heard of Seven Four Entertainment, and that is because Ghost is the first band to sign to the label run by former Warner Bros. executive Tom Whalley.

According to our pals at MetalSucks, the word on the street is the band got a pretty hefty advance of $750,000. This also brings up the question: what if the second Ghost album doesn't recoup all that money?

The Swedish rockers would definitely have to find another label, as major labels aren't really giving any slack to metal bands, especially after an album bombs. Then again, with this much investment in the band, and being the first signee, I'm sure all hands will be on deck to ensure the money will be repaid.

Do you think the move to Seven Four Ent. is a good one? Or should Ghost have found solace at a metal label like Metal Blade, who licensed and distributed their debut Opus Eponymous in the States?

This has bad news all over it. Its not Warner Bros. but they have been know to be over barring on bands music, and Ghost changing their style would be un-thinkable. Secondly, weather they'll be able to make that money up is something to be concerned about. Look at Mutiny Within; they signed to Road Runner for too much, and got cut off when they couldn't make up the money.

This band has a lot of potential, but still in their infancy. They'd be much better off with Metal Blade of Relapse. Those labels give new bands a good chance.

Relapse wouldn't have known what to do with them.

And also, at least business-wise, Relapse is absolutely atrocious. Royalties are basically non-existent. Just ask Steve Austin.

Success breeds success. What Metal and Rock music need in general are contenders. The unabashed opinions of the youth on who's the greatest new generation guitarist, drummer, bassist, etc. We need the rhetoric and we, as the Rock media, need to be at the forefront of publishing it. Just one man's opinion but I've been around a long time and it ain't rocket science to figure out what Rock/Metal is missing. We need to bring out the Artist in more of our youth.

When will people get over this Ghost hype. What annoys me the most is their fake ass "satanic" image. It's just another shite pop band, but with the evil image all you dumb ass metalheads swallow the whole thing. The member's other bands, past and present, are soo much better like Roswell, Prowess and Maim to name a few.
