Makers of "Rock Band" Reveal Prototype Fender Strat Controller
Here is the first look at Rock Band's Fender Strat guitar.
Rock Band is an upcoming music video game, developed by Harmonix Music Systems and published by Electronic Arts. It is scheduled for a North American release during the 2007 holiday season. Developed for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Rock Band will offer players the ability to play in a virtual band by providing up to four players, and the capacity to utilize three different instrument-based peripherals (a guitar peripheral for guitar and bass guitar sequences, a drum peripheral, and a microphone); allowing players to interact through online and offline multiplayer capabilities.
Resembling the original Fender Strat guitar, Rock Band's guitar has multi-colored buttons on the neck that wrap around and include the actual fret. Playing the game not only mimics playing an actual guitar, but this design allows you to see which buttons your are fretting. Also, five new buttons have been included higher on the fretboard to give a more realistic feel for shredding through solos! Production has not begun, so this is probably a near-final prototype.
