Peter Steele is now sober; into God and shit

BREAKING 4/14/10 – PETER STEELE Allegedly Dead of Heart Failure

Peter Steele, frontman of TYPE O NEGATIVE and founder of my favorite thrash band evaaar CARNIVORE was for a while, quite the trainwreck. I remember seeing a Carnivore reunion a few years ago, and noticed he did not look well. Recently though, TYPE-O started touring again and its clear by the interview below that Peter Steele is clean, looks relatively healthy and still has that dry witty sarcasm that he is known for. The interview was pretty fun at first but then slowly it started taking a turn for the worse…

Ladies and gentlemen, Peter Steele has found God. Does this mean hell has really frozen over? Not only has he found God, he thinks you should have God in your life too. OMFG WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO YOU??? He literally says "We are all part of God's plan." To that I ask Pete, was this part of God's plan?. All the God talk starts at about 15 minutes in.

Jesus Hitler, Adolf Christ. Is this the 2nd coming or the 4th reich?

  • legion_1349

i see nothing different here. its peter as hes always been. dry humor, politics, religion and poop. anyone who is surprised by this must have not listened to Dead Again, quite a bit more about religion in that album than there is in this interview. im not surprised and neither should anyone else that has known about this band and/or peter for the years that i have

This had better not get any horns.

  • legion_1349

just because Bloodjuice said so haha

  • Mothmonsterman

That's a cool car sticker Keith.

  • gobuffs09

It's unreal how hidebound you are for knocking his belief in God, the flying spaghetti monster or whatever. Just because he doesn't revile in his addiction doesn't make him ignorant or stupid. If anything I give him massive props for being to able pull himself out of arguably the depths of addiction. And so what if he's proselytizing, if Jesus help him & turned his life around I don't blame him for making a case.

  • Keith

^He just traded one addiction for another. I'm happy for him because he picked an addiction that is better for his physical health but he should shouldn't be less happy for me because I don't believe in his stupid trite.

  • Kocksmyth69

He was a couple blocks from Death Street… Ya can't write tunes six feet under… maybe this will give us hope for future Type O releases.

    Hopefully he stays healthy!

    Peter Steele Is God…

  • lioncourt44

I'm digusted at even looking at the tittle of the article. YOU SR…fucking suck balls. I haven'nt even been through half of the crazy shit Peter has gone through and yet I can understand how this change he's made is awesome…if thats whats gonna keep him clean and healthy, than let him keep preaching cuzz he's the fucking man! Type O Negative FUCKING ROCKS…Peter Steele is a GENIUS!

  • bek7567

Really Lioncourt. To blast a man for finding/reconnecting with God/religion (no matter which religion it might be), and/or bettering himself, is just outright ridiculous, and clearly only a non-shaving, goth-fag, wannabe runt would
    say such a thing.

Furthermore to say such a thing is relevant to absolutely nothing here. Type O would kick ass not matter what the subject matter of the music is, what narrow-minded garbage. Get a life, retards.

This couldn't have been easy for Peter to sit through this interview and admit his guilt, his pain, his addictions. Offer his wordly advice to those who have suffered. To answer the questions you asked him with honesty, sincerity and humor- You should feel priveleged to have been in his presence- Yet you act like you're king shit and he's nothing because he's found God? I've never even heard of you until I saw this interview you little maggot! Now Peter's dead and I hope you feel like shit for slamming his faith! May he rest in peace and may you go fuck yourself.

    • Landria

Couldn't have said it better myself :)

O K. Peter found "God" or re-found him/her, whatever. He was still an amazing musician. I do have to say it was a shock to me, not the fact that he found him/her,whatever, but to actually hear him say that we all need Jesus Christ in our lives. That sounds like a bunch of AA hoey! My brother tried to pull that crap on me. I love Peter no matter his faith. I will always be a fan of Type O. Even in his death he is still my great love. His voice does things to me that most men can not accomplish with any part of their body. oops… moving on. Believe it don't push it. I do not follow the christian/catholic/monotheistic religions so there for most of what he said went in one ear and out the other. The tattoos are ugly, but you know what that was his choice. He was a beautiful man inside and out. I miss him, as I am sure, all of his fans do. He was and still is my most favorite singer of all time. Rest in Peace Green Man!

Thank you so much for this interview. Peter Steele forever! This world will never be the same without him.

Ya know, for what it's worth, I decided to join up here to offer some thoughts in Peter's defense. Bugs me that some people dismissed something that became important to him, without seeing the good that came from it.

It's heartbreaking, but I like to replay this to see him at that point where his sobriety seemed to be impacting his strength, clarity, & potential – it's kinda beautiful.

None of the organized religions grab me, but I've still got a conscience & very spiritual philosophy that governs my life & how I relate to the world.

I guess it's easy to watch this interview, & jump to conclusions without deeper consideration that (for many people) "religion" can be/is much more than "just musty old dogma & ritual" … I'm not here discuss religion, just wondering if people could try to read between his lines?

What about introspection, reflection, empathy, compassion, working at being non-judgemental, acknowledging the sacred in nature & life – perceiving everything as having it's place & part to play in "the big picture"? A vital sense of spirituality, connection & unity with the "ALL", or whatever you might wanna call it?
Religion can encompass these things also.
I really think this is what he may have been fundamentally trying to get across here, but his system just expresses it in a more formal & established way.

Why not be really pleased that, whatever Peter's or anyone's beliefs, they enabled him to move towards a point of healthier reconciliation of his past, his (then) present, & his future?

I dunno, I get the impression he may have really needed to do this kind of interview, for himself, & for his fans – exorcise his demons publicly – a hugely daunting, but cathartic step for someone famous & in recovery?
Really watch his facial expressions, body language… try to imagine how he must have felt…
There's his balls, right there :P

His final sentence seemed loaded with insight, & really heartfelt… a perfect message.
His brief little exhale/sigh, right after his last word, said so much to me :'(

RIP & SHINE ON, PETRUS <3
