METALLICA's No Life 'Til Leather Box Set Shelved Indefinitely Due To Legal Problems

No demo 'til legal issues go away.

No demo 'til legal issues go away.

Metallica released incredibly expansive deluxe box sets of its Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning records this year. The boxes, or just the simple CD versions, featured remixed and remastered versions of the albums in their original forms, and the band has stated that it will be doing this for all its studio albums. It's good news for a lot of fans considering there's no bass on ...And Justice For All, the garbage can snare drum on St. Anger, and the brick-wall mastering on Death Magnetic, among other sound flaws.

Unfortunately there will not be a reissuing of the band's No Life 'Til Leather demo, due to legal issues, says Lars Ulrich in an interview with Metal Forces.

“There were some unexpected difficulties on the legal side that prevented the No Life ’Til Leather box set and our vision for how we were going to kick this whole reissue series off. We spent some time doing that dance, but then James (Hetfield) and I decided that it wasn’t worth it getting bogged down in all the unpleasantries, because this was supposed to be a celebration and not end up being a tug of war, so we thought, you know what, fuck it, we’ll just move on to Kill ’Em All.”

It doesn't sound like Metallica is ruling out the reissuing of No Life 'Til Leather altogether, but I don't think we'll be seeing the box set of the demo anytime soon.

On the flip side of that, we will be seeing a new album sometime in the near future!
