METALLICA's Lars Ulrich illegally downloads his own album; Call the cops!
- Posted on March 3, 2009
It seems when METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich isn't busy hanging out with other dudes in bathroom stalls he is checking the cool world of the interwebs and getting hip to the super rebellious "illegal downloading" craze. Blabbermouth reports:
METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich, who angered many fans by waging a high-profile battle with Napster in 2000 over illegal music downloading, admitted in a recent interview that he has also used the Internet to obtain a full album's worth of music without paying for it. "I sat there myself and downloaded [METALLICA's latest CD] 'Death Magnetic' [illegally] from the Internet just to try it," he told Eddie Trunk of VH1 Classic's hit series "That Metal Show". "I was like, 'Wow, this is how it works.' I figured if there is anybody that has a right to download 'Death Magnetic' for free, it's me. I sat there one night at my house with about six of my friends and a bottle of wine. And what was it called?! [Trying to think of the name of the file-sharing client he used to download the album] We found it — this was like two or three days after ['Death Magnetic'] leaked. I was like, 'You know what? I've gotta try this.' So we sat there, and thirty minutes later, I had 'Death Magnetic' in my computer. It was kind of bizarre."
Lars is such a common man. I can't tell you how many times I've sat around with 6 of my friends and a bottle of wine just thinking about downloading my own albums. But seriously, it took you 30 minutes to download this? I'm assuming your "friends" aren't up with the times as a simple Google blog search will result in your album being in your hands in 2 minutes or less. Either way, jerkface, do you realize how many publishers and record label suits you affected by downloading your album? Your buddies may lose their jobs now and then who will you go into bathroom stalls with? It all comes together!

For fucks sake Lars is an idiot and a fucking hypocrite….In the new Global Metal movie he states that he has no problem with people downloading music because he feels that it's ok as long as people can listen to it and enjoy it……..ASSHOLE
The biggest noob and way over rated drummer in the buisness!
its lars people.
hes gonna do whatever the fuck he wants, we are just jealous cuz hes fuckin loaded.
WOW. I love Metallica, but Lars is a goddamn douchebag. I"m sure he did this just to get a rise out of people. He's either an asshole or just completely techonologically illiterate. Downloading an album is so simple that I can't imagine he seriously didn't know how it was done.
geez i am sick of people crying about napster. who gives a shit. it was 10 years ago. and i do believe you can still download music very easily for free. for your imformation the napster case eneded up being dropped anyways for all u dumbshits. and secondly you cant steal from yourself. lars downloaded HIS album.
metallica is an old school band, and work very hard on their music so when the news got to them that it was being taken from them without their permission. it understandably upset them. but lars did drop it and said u know what, that's fine if that's what people want to do
actually it's his own album. he already owns it, so it's not illegal. you all just want a reason to bitch about him but he already owns it, and it's his own band. There is a huge difference between him downloading it and you downloading it. you don't own it, he does.
