METALLICA Donates All Polar Music Prize Money To Various Charities
Metallica was awarded the Polar Music Prize from Sweden's own King Carl XVI Gustaf in Stockholm on June 14. The prize included 1,000,000 Swedish Kroner, or about $130,000, all of which Metallica donated to charity.
Metallica gave 50 percent of the money to the Stockholm City Mission, which supports the homeless, 25 percent to the World Childhood Foundation, which reaches at-risk children, and 25 percent to Afghanistan National Institute of Music, which brings the arts back to Afghanistan after its civil war.
This comes off the heels of Metallica surprise donating 25,000 Euros to the Lahja Hursti Charitable Trust after a few shows in Finland this May. Metallica also runs their All Within My Hands Foundation, which aims to help as many charities as they possibly can globally.
