On the release of their highly anticipated fourth album, Prequelle, at a sold out show in Milwaukee, Ghost encountered a tragedy. Sadly, a fan of theirs passed away during an intermission at last night's gig in Milwaukee. Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the Ghost fan.

Metal Insider contributor Alexander Stafford was at the event and offered this first hand account of what went down:

“Seeing it first hand was rather heartbreaking. He was right behind me. I saw it all from an arms length away.

Right as the band announced an intermission and second act, the house lights went on and within moments, fans tried grabbing attention of the security as a fan had passed out.

There was a confusion as if the fan just needed water as it was rather hot up in the pit. After the fan was unresponsive, CPR was administered. At that point, fans were being cleared out of the GA pit and to the lobby. Shortly after, security started escorting people out of the venue. It was then I realized that the band would not be partaking in the second act. In addition to the midnight mass/meet & greet, album release was canceled and their cryptic posting on FB was deleted.”

The Milwaukee Fire Department confirmed to CBS 58 confirmed that the fan was taken to the hospital and CPR was performed, but they were unable to revive the person. The Ghost fan they took one person to the hospital and CPR was performed to revive the person. CPR was performed in the venue for at least 15 minutes. Natural causes is the official cause of death.

Ghost released a short statement offering condolences to the fan and asking for privacy:

Tonight, in Milwaukee there was a medical emergency with one of our fans. We decided not to continue out of respect to him and his family. Ghost and all who work with us ask that you please send the family your thoughts, prayers and respect their privacy during this time.

Update: Moments after publishing, Ghost offered a second comment:
