Ex-IN FLAMES Guitarist Jesper Strömblad Calls The Band's Recent Output A Polished Turd

He says the band is "polishing a turd."

He says the band is "polishing a turd."

From 1997 to 2010, Jesper Strömblad was not only In Flames' guitarist, but one of the band's two main songwriters alongside fellow guitarist Björn Gelotte. Pretty much everything up to 2004's Soundtrack To Your Escape musically was written solely by the duo, at which point vocalist Anders Fridén jumped into the songwriting arena. Strömblad left in 2010, and you know the rest.

Some fans say the band lost its touch around 2002's Reroute To Remain, though nearly all those who were into the old stuff absolutely despise the new stuff. Within that group of fans is Strömblad, who took to Facebook to voice his opinion on the matter, alongside an older interview with Gelotte and Fridén.

Anders says as it is :D beaking news. He have never been a songwriter. Trying to "sing" with a vocalproducer" doing his best to polish the turd. And most imporatntly. I had no impact on the songwriting what so ever *crying*… Sorry guys, I jst could be quiet for once;) Just happy I left the sinking ship. Welcome trolls to piss on this post btw:)

Gelotte and Fridén say without Strömblad, there are "no more compromises," though they say they do keep in touch. Obviously a lot has changed since that interview in 2014, but Strömblad's comments as of September 13 make it pretty clear that he's not a fan of new In Flames at all, and feels like his contributions were undermined.
