Let's Laugh At STAIND's Aaron Lewis Botching The National Anthem

A World Series fuck up of epic proportions.

A World Series fuck up of epic proportions.

Unless you live in San Francisco or Kansas City, you probably don't care about the World Series, but something magical happened last night. Staind's Aaron Lewis attempted to perform the national anthem at a game this weekend and failed miserably. Instead of singing "what so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming," Lewis sang "what so proudly we hailed were so gallantly streaming." "Gallantly streaming" doesn't come up until much later in the song…

What makes this even more hilarious is in 2011, Lewis chastised pop singer Christina Agueleria for fucking up the song:

Oh, the irony. To be fair, there is a lot of pressure to perform when you're on live TV in one of the most watched baseball games of the year. But we have no time for sympathy, because we're too busy giggling like little school girls. Lewis accepts the fault for messing up and has since released this statement:

"All I can say is I'm sorry and ask for the nation's forgiveness. My nerves got the best of me and I am completely torn up about what happened.

"America is the greatest country in the world. 'The Star-Spangled Banner' means so much to so many, including myself.

"I hope everyone can understand the intensity of the situation and my true intent of this performance.

"I hope that the nation, Major League Baseball and the many fans of our national pastime can forgive me."

We can forgive you for botching the anthem, but about all those Staind albums… not so much! (Full disclosure: I really liked their debut and the second album had some catchy tunes.)
