DEVIN TOWNSEND Is Writing A Symphony!

Because at this point, why wouldn't he write a symphony?

Devin Townsend is what we in the music world refer to as "fucking ridiculous." Seriously, what doesn't this guy do? At this point he's covered everything from crazy ass death metal via Strapping Young Lad, to atmospheric stuff and pop via Devin Townsend Project, even to country music with Casualties of Cool! At least he's not writing a symphony. That would make us all feel like really terrible musicians… wait. In an interview with Kaaos TV (below), Townsend reveals he's doing exactly that.

I’m writing a symphony, and I’m going to record it in Belgium in Surround Sound with a visual counterpart. It’s going to have a lot of instruments that are not typical for orchestral stuff – a combination of everything.

I want to have something that goes between the extremes of beautiful to total chaos, like hellish apocalypse. I’d like to have a point to it that isn’t a story – to do with human things, emotions that I currently struggle with because I don’t find myself emotionally very intelligent.

It's not like he hasn't touched on orchestral elements before. Both Ziltoid albums had some pretty big string and choir sections on it and more recent Devin Townsend Project records have had the same. Si I'm expecting those elements, but way bigger and… who am I kidding. It's Devin Townsend. This could literally be anything!
