Dave Lombardo wants to give Lars Ulrich some drumming lessons (Please accept Lars!)
Posted on November 22nd, 2009
In 2004, METALLICA were set to headline the UK's Download Festival, except for one problem; Lars got sick and couldn't play. So the band enlisted some very talented drummers (mainly Joey Jordinson from SLIPKNOT and Dave Lombardo of SLAAAYEERRR) to help fill in and the result was the best METALLICA sounded in years (videos after the jump.) This thought was not lost on Dave Lombardo who offered to help Lars sharpen up his skills in a recent interview:
Rhythm: Playing with METALLICA at Download in 2004 must have been quite an experience.
Lombardo: "Yeah. Show 'em how it's done! No disrespect to Lars, because Lars is great and he's a very nice guy, but he needs to spend a week at my house and we need to sit down and play. I could show him — 'No, Lars, like this!'… 'Let's chill, let's relax, have some coffee and let's play!' Hahahahaha!"
Lars, speaking for most of your fans, I want to implore you to take Dave up on his offer. Your drummer sucks and it totally holds the band back. To see some quality drumming, check out the Download 2004 footage after the jump…
