Cause of GWAR Guitarist's Death Revealed
- Posted by RobInjection on December 6, 2011
A few weeks back, the metal world mourned at the loss of GWAR guitarist Corey Smoot. Smoot was found in his bunk dead while the band was on tour. The band did not have any information on why he passed, and were awaiting the coroner's report. Today, that autopsy report came in, conducted by North Dakota coroner William Masselo, MD. In a statement released by GWAR, here is what it revealed:
We have finalized the autopsy report and death certificate. I have determined that Cory died from a coronary artery thrombosis brought about by his pre-existing coronary artery disease.
Turns out the issue was genetic. Usually when writing of a musician who died of a heart attack, drugs or foul play are the first thing that come to mind. Neither was the case here. You can still make donations to The Smoot Family Fund, with proceeds going directly to Smoot's widow and unborn child. If you are in the Richmond area, consider attending the benefit show in early January.
