Heavy Montreal Is Skipping 2017, Coming Back Even Stronger In 2018

2018 will be an extra day under a different name!

2018 will be an extra day under a different name!

For the past 8 years, we've sang the praises of the Heavy Montreal festival. The festival offered a fantastic lineup every year, and seemed to just keep getting larger and larger. Which is why it kind of sucks that Heavy Montreal will not be a thing in 2017.

The good news here is that Heavy Montreal will once again take place on July 28 and 29, 2018, at the Parc Jean-Drapeau. There will also be another festival held on July 27 at the same venue, titled Heavy in the City.

“During the past eight editions of Heavy Montréal, we always focused on the quality of the experience in order to give metal and rock fans a first-rate festival,” said Nick Farkas, Vice-President, Concerts and Events at evenko. “Several factors, including the renovations at Parc Jean-Drapeau and the increase in cultural events during Montréal’s 375th Anniversary, contributed to our decision. We truly believe that a hiatus in 2017 before strongly returning in 2018 will ensure the festival’s sustainability as well as offer festivalgoers an edition that will make them proud.”

So yeah, it sucks that there will be no 2017 edition, but it sounds like 2018 is slowly getting planned and is shaping up to be an even bigger event than ever before. Here are our reports from the 2015 and 2014 editions of the festival:
