GWAR's Oderus Urungus & Wayne Static Excluded From GRAMMYs' In Memoriam Segment

For the second year in a row, the Grammys refuse to pay tribute to fallen metal musicians. Last year, the Grammys' "In Memorium" segment snubbed Grammy winner and Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman, so it should come as no surprise that the two big names that heavy metal and hard rock lost this year were ignored by the Grammys.

Those names of course were GWAR's Oderus Urungus and Static-X's Wayne Static. While you may have a certain opinion on Static, the dude definitely was a big enough name to get acknowledgement from the Grammy board. And, with GWAR's Oderus Urungus, it makes even less sense since, as MetalSucks points out, they were nominated in 1996 for the song “S.F.W.” as well as for their long-form video Phallus In Wonderland.

So, between this and the least metal nominee winning Best Metal Performance it's yet another middle finger from the Grammy board for metal. All of which is to say, Oderus' wise words from a few years ago about the Grammys ring even truer today:
