BLACK SABBATH Guitarist Tony Iommi Diagnosed With Lymphoma
- Posted by RobInjection on January 9, 2012
Well this is a crappy way to start the week. I woke up to see a status from Black Sabbath in my Facebook feed that was anything but good news. Turns out, Tony Iommi, the guitarist of the band and the Godfather of heavy metal has been stricken with lymphoma, which is a cancer of the immune system. Here is the official statement:
“With the news that Black Sabbath’s Tony Iommi has been diagnosed with the early stages of lymphoma, his bandmates would like everyone to send positive vibes to the guitarist at this time. Iommi is currently working with his doctors to establish the best treatment plan–the “IRON MAN” of Rock & Roll remains upbeat and determined to make a full and successful recovery.
“This comes as Black Sabbath–Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar), Geezer Butler (bass) and Bill Ward (drums)–are writing and recording their first album in 33 years in Los Angeles (still set for release this fall) with producer Rick Rubin. They will now go to the UK to continue to work with Tony. Further information will be released as it becomes available.”
Wow, this is certainly not pleasant news but hopefully Iommi can be treated for this. While I can't wait for a new Sabbath record, obviously, the health of all the members takes presedence. I will be sending good vibes to Iommi nightly, in the form of sacrificing goats in his honor while a Sabbath album plays in the background. (Ok, not really)

Horrible news. Get well sir, the whole metal community is with you.
Horrible news indeed. I wish you a speedy recovery Tony.
Holy fuck. Hopefully medical science (NOT God) can help Tony get through this. And if it can't, I wish him as painless an experience as possible. He is a great man and a legend in his own lifetime.
Get well Tony!!! They say they caught it in the early stages so I'm hoping to see a good recovery.
If he caught it as early as my dad did, he should be able to get through it just fine; worst that'll happen is the throat treatment makes his voice a little scratchy.
