27 Dead, 180 Injured After Pyro Mishap At Metal Show In Bucharest

Here's a complete and total fucking bummer: a band called Goodbye To Gravity's release party went horribly awry over the weekend.

The band played Colectiv Nightclub in Bucharest, Romania, to celebrate the release of its brand new record, Mantras of War. The band had a pyrotechnics setup going on in the club for one of the songs and something caught fire when they went off, leaving 27 dead and 180 injured in the ensuing blaze. Among the dead is two of the band's guitarists, Vlad Telea and Mihai Alexandru.

Here's what we know about the blaze, from Blabbermouth.

"People were fainting, they were fainting from the smoke. It was total chaos, people were trampling on each other," a witness told Romania's Antena 3 TV. "It was a tragedy that could have been avoided if there had been more organization from the emergency services."

A concert attendee wrote on Facebook that two foam pillars caught fire. "They then set fire to wood inside the building, which burned everything really quickly," he said. "It was made worse by the fact that the only way out was a relatively small door."

Here is a news report about the tragedy:

This instantly made me think of the fire at The Station Nightclub in Rhode Island, where the band Great White met a similar fate. That fire left 100 dead and 230 injured… so please everyone. No more pyrotechnics inside. It never goes well.
