BEHEMOTH's Nergal Says Doing Folk Music Energized Him To Make More Metal

Thanks, Me And That Man!

Thanks, Me And That Man!

Behemoth recently entered the studio to record the follow-up to its 2014 masterpiece The Satanist. Nergal also spoke to us a little bit about the progress of the new album and what to expect, but before all that Nergal wasn't really sure there would even be another album. He tells Metal Hammer that when he finished up The Satanist, he wasn't too sure there was another album of extreme metal left in him. The one thing that re-energized him to ultimately go and make another album wasn't metal at all, but his folk project Me And That Man. Nergal says once he returned to trying to make metal after the Me And That Man album Songs Of Love And Death in 2017, he had a much easier time.

"When I was done with The Satanist, I was pretty much done with any music. I was, like, 'I don't know if there's any more extreme metal music in me.' So I had to level out my energy with Me And That Man, and surprisingly, once I went back to the 'black metal cave' after that, I was more creative than ever. I couldn't stop making songs! Usually, I'm super-burnt-out [after an album cycle], but at this stage, not only am I still full of ideas, I feel like I'm on drugs! I feel pumped. I'm hungry."

He adds that "From now on, my full energy goes on Behemoth." So I guess we can expect the new album and maybe something else before another four years passes after its release? At the very least, we know Behemoth is putting together a live album due out possibly this spring.
