A holiday we can all agree on: lobby for "International Blast Beat Celebration Day"

Posted on January 20th, 2009

For those of you who never understood why America's forthcoming holiday revolves around groundhogs (and doesn't even give us a day off,) your prayers may have been answered. According to this article from The Guardian, grindcore singer/blogger ERICH KELLER of FEAR OF GOD proposed a January 29 holiday for the chosen weapon of metal drummers worldwide. The article speculates on the origins of the blast beat, which include NAPALM DEATH, THE BEASTIE BOYS(!) and BILLY JOEL's first band(!!!), while Keller sites New York hardcore OGs HEART ATTACK as the blast beat founders on his blog, Good Bad Music for Bad, Bad Times. Check that out here.

In any case, a blast beat holiday is an awesome idea that deserves your support. Call your local congressman and tell him that we have talking puppets on our side…
