Last week, we posted about former Bury Your Dead's vocalist Myke Terry joining the metalcore group Volumes consisting of co-vocalist Gus Farias, lead guitarist Diego Farias, bassist Raad Soudani and drummer Nick Ursich. And here at Metal Injection, we are also proud to announce that an upcoming Volumes record via Fearless Records is on its way!

Even better yet, we have an exclusive premiere of their new single and interview with vocalist Myke Terry and bassist Raad Soudani about what is to come of the band. You can watch the music video for the new single "Feels Good" and check out our full interview with the two band members below.

Alright, well the big news dropped about a week ago that you are now the vocalist for Volumes. Can you delve a bit into the joining process? I believe it was an audition, correct?

Raad Soudani (bassist): Volumes parted ways with Michael Barr and we needed someone to take the torch. We asked people to audition and sing our songs on Youtube. Our manager organized about one hundred videos for us to watch and we auditioned maybe twenty people in person.

Myke Terry (vocalist): I've met the band and we were out at a party or something. I ran into Diego and he told me that they were looking for a vocalist and I should try out. I didn't think anything of it, but a week later he called back and followed-up about the audition. I headed to the studio to try out a bunch of songs and the rest is history.

I heard there were a lot of different vocalists auditioning for the spot? What characteristics was the band looking for?

Raad: The way we went ahead in choosing Mike Terry is 1) Myke Terry is a phenomenal singer, 2) Myke Terry is a phenomenal person, and 3) Myke Terry is located in Los Angeles. There's a vibe to this city that goes with our band. We were way more confident in going with Myke than someone on Youtube.

So Myke, can you recall the first time you heard Volumes, what song it was, and any details like that?

Myke: Wow, it was awhile ago, man. That would be when Via came out I think. I heard "Wormholes" and I was just like "oh, shit" [laughs]. At the time, no one was doing that. I was blown away. And then No Sleep came out and I was like "man, these guys are killing it." I've always been a fan in the background and seeing them live when they toured nearby. I didn't actually get to meet them until later on.

I just recently listened to the upcoming single “Feels Good” and it sounds great. Can you discuss the writing and recording process for this song?

Raad: Volumes started writing the album last June. We got in the studio and wrote about thirty songs. We then had a meeting with Fearless Records and decided we needed to focus on turning those songs into pure fucking heavy, groovy, swaggy Volumes material. And since then, we've been in the studio trying to create something both organic and evolutionary to the band. And that all lead to us doing "Feels Good." It's got everything you'd want from the band as far as awesome rhythm, melody, and production. And Myke Terry comes in and it turns into a masterpiece.

The single will be a part of your upcoming album off Fearless Records. Would you say “Feels Good” is similar to the other tracks on this upcoming album?

Raad: So, the album…

Myke: I wouldn't give anything away.

Raad: Yeah but, like I said before, we wrote about thirty songs…

Myke: Hey man, don't give anything away. Don't do it!

Raad: Alright alright, I'm not. I'll say that every single song is a banger. All killer, no filler.

How would you compare the upcoming album to past records, Via or No Sleep?

Raad: Progression is the word that comes to mind. We want to keep progressing and combining the music we listen to on a daily basis. Via and No Sleep were cool albums and we were all about creating heavy songs then, but everyone has matured since then and we want to make music that a wider audience can enjoy.

So, what exactly is the current progress on writing and recording for the upcoming album right now?

Raad: It's been a year-long process and one of the craziest, emotional times I've had. I've never been in the studio as long as I have for this record. But it's pretty much done and it's going to be fucking awesome because half the music out there sucks and when we release a record, we refresh the music scene.

Myke: Yeah, we've been working hard on it and it should be coming out in early Fall.

Are there any other bands you guys have been particularly enjoying or listening to for inspiration for this album?

Myke: Always have to give it to the gods, Meshuggah.

Raad: They have the craziest, grooviest patterns. I would say everything is influencing us. We're all eclectic listeners in Volumes. We listen to every single bit of music out there because that's our job.

sumerian

You have dates lined up for this summer’s Warped Tour as well as the Sumerian Alliance tour in Europe with Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya, and Black Crown Initiate. Who are you looking forward to seeing live during these runs?

Myke: Fucking Whitechapel, that's my shit.

Raad: Chelsea Grin, Issues, Crown the Empire, and Every Time I Die to name a few. And for the European tour, Born of Osiris are the coolest dudes in the world. They've helped us so much behind the scenes and we used to look up to them even before we started Volumes. We borrowed Joe Buras as a vocalist. Also, they party their fucking asses off harder then I've seen anyone party. Veil of Maya is on that package too. We've shared the road with them many times and they are some of the most genuine, incredible people I've ever met. Marc Okubo is one of the best people on planet Earth. I've never seen him have an ego or get mad.

Do you think we'll be hearing some new stuff during these shows?

Myke: Yeah, we'll play some new and old stuff.

Raad: By that tour, we'll definitely be playing new shit. Playing Volumes' classics and favorites, baby.

Myke: Boom. All day, son!

Any other upcoming events or things worth mentioning to all your fans out there?

Raad: Welcome Myke Terry to the family. We're so excited to start this chapter with him. The vibe of the band has become very positive and everyone's communicating really well. We're just very excited to put out what we think is our best record yet and release more records after that. Keep checking social media because we update that stuff and respond to fans everyday. There's a lot surprises coming.

Myke: I just want to say thank you to the band and fans for being so loving so far. I can't wait to go out and meet everyone.
