I've never played any Schecters. Heard good things about them though.
All I know is, I love my PRS.

Schecters are actually good guitars for their price. I knew a few people who've used them and no one has ever had any real complaints.

try out a bunch of guitars until you find one that weighs and "feels" right for you. action, balance, fret size, etc.
try it through an amp to make sure it doesnt have the "shitty cardboard wood" tone, if youve compared $150 guitars to $300 guitars, you know what im talking about.
once you got that sorted out, buy pickup to replace the ones it came with.
