ASK ME I'M RIGHT: Greg Answers Questions About Thermins, His Favorites and Cereal Wars

Instead of practicing with his band, The Red Chord for their upcoming co-headlining spot on Summer Slaughter, bassist Greg Weeks checked in answering a few important questions from some Metal Injection junkies. Whether its music, girls of life in general, Greg is always right. Submit your inquiries to [email protected] and Greg will solve all your problems:

Hello Greg!

I'm an aspiring musician(Bass, ukulele, and a little guitar), and I've been saving up for a new instrument. I've narrowed it down a bit, but I'm still torn between buying a new bass(a sexy six string) or going all psychedelic and buying a theremin. I've always been obsessed with the theremin, because it kicks ass, but I've been craving that low B and the high C for a while now. I do have a fairly nice bass right now(Fender Jazz American Standard 4 String), but it would be convenient to have the extra two strings. Any advise?

PS: No Massachusetts show on your tour?! Play a hometown show for us loyal fans!

PPS: Not even New England Metal and Hardcore Festival?! I'll enjoy myself at the Palladium seeing BTBAM, Mastodon, Baroness, JFaC, and Cannibal Corpse, but I will shed but a single tear for my dream of The Red Chord playing.

PPS: Back when y'all played the show at the Palladium on Halloween with Gwar, you guys dressed up in some weird costumes. The only exact one that I was able to distinguish was that Guy was wearing a Batman mask. Care to reveal what you, Gunface, and Brad were dressed up as?

Thanks and sorry for the long bickering email,
Ryan

Ryan,
I'm obviously on top of these questions seeing as both Metal Fest and the tour you mentioned have long passed. To your surprise though we did end up playing Metal Fest because a volcano interrupted our Euro plans so lucky or unlucky you. As far as the instrument question goes if you already have a guitar with 6 strings why would you want a bass with one? Make Clara Rockmore proud and get the Theremin. It's good enough for Zeppelin and the Pixies and you can irritate everyone you live with. Learning to play that thing with any real success is much more challenging than adding two more strings to an instrument you're already familiar with.

Guy was wearing a Batman mask and actually thought he was Batman for the rest of the night. It was really fun backstage when he would only refer to himself as Batman. It totally didn't get old at all. The two times we've been lucky enough to play a Halloween show with GWAR we've dressed up as something and then just slapped on some corpse paint. The first time we crammed ourselves into children's Halloween costumes. The time you saw us I was dressed up as myself from the "Blue Line Cretin" video. I forget what Mike and Brad said they were. We've got a couple Mass shows coming up so get ready and bring your Theremin.

What is your favorite band as of now? Oh, and what's your favorite TV show?
-Dylan

Dylan,
It changes daily. As I'm writing this I'm listening to Annie's record Anniemal so maybe her. Also, I can't stop listening to the re-released "Brit Hits" by "The British English". Great stuff. As for T.V., it would have to be a show that Gunface got me into called "Party Down". It's co-created by the guy who did "Veronica Mars" and the writing is incredible.

Greg,
Who would win in a wrestling match, Toucan Sam, or Sonny the Cocoa Puff bird?

Hesh

Hesh,
Lucky from Lucky Charms would trump them all using his magical powers. After the battle though Lucky would be attacked while he slept by Count Chocula who is slowly sucking the life out of the land of cereal. He, Boo Berry and Frankenberry have sworn to exact revenge on those who have banished them from the land of cereal. Not even the generics are safe!

Check back next week as Greg decides to answer more of your questions. ubmit your inquiries to [email protected] and Greg will get to them by sometime this year.
