BLACKENEDFEST Day 3: After The Storm

Posted on May 26th, 2009

We sent roving reporter Justina Villanueva on the road with this summer's darkest tour, Blackenedfest. She will be checking in constantly with dispatches from the tour. Catch up with all her tour diaries, as well as a ton of photos at the Blackenedfest hub.

Day 3

Following a riot of a great time at Maryland Death Fest, the Blackened Fest tour made its stop at one of the worst venues on the east coast: Ground Zero in South Carolina.
Highlights after the jump.

A Talk With Two Fans
Spartanburg's Ground Zero gravel parking lot is nothing special. When we got there for load in at about 5pm, there was already a couple fan's cars parked. I spoke to Chris Vogel and Stanely McVey, two northwest floridians who road trip about 5 times a year for shows. The previous night they went to see Opeth and Enslaved in Tennessee. When they travel far to shows they either stay at hotels or with family.

They love Scandinavian death and black metal bands, especially those who tread the lines of avant-gard. The two 22-year-olds came to Sparanburg in hopes of seeing Marduk, but they were also very excited to see Mayhem for the first time.

A Local Band With Fire
Atlanta's Apocalyptic Visions brought fire and enough unintentionally satirical stage banter to make one giggle.

First Tour Food Road Stop: Waffle House

Robert (above) is Mayhem's personal documentarian. This Norwegian loves greasy food.
