<itunes:summary>Peanut butter and jelly. Movies and popcorn. Pummeling metal and praying for world peace. Some things just go together perfectly.

Welcome to the spectacle that is episode 49 of Issue Oriented. First, your fearless host talks to Burnt By The Sun vocalist (and Issue Oriented contributor) Michael Olender about good and evil, the perils of personal creativity, his band's new release Heart of Darkness and much, much more. It's a thought-provoking piece and we know you'll love it.

Then hear film maker Jonathan Kalafer discuss his new award-winning documentary, We Love You. This film documents an annual event called the Rainbow Gathering, which takes place at a different National Park each year. With up to 50,000 people in attendance, Rainbow Gatherings culminate with a prayer for peace taking place each 4th of July - even if Federal Agents shoot pepper spray at kids on July 3. Which Kalafer captured on film. We Love You recently won Best Documentary at the Los Angeles International Short Film Festival. Check out this interview - you'll be glad you did.

<itunes:summary>UPDATE: We have added this week's Behind the Scenes video after the jump

We had two very special guests on this edition of the METAL INJECTION LIVECAST, Greg Weeks of THE RED CHORD Paul Waggonner of BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME. Greg calls early on and starts some beef with Paul, which Paul responds to later in the show. Also, when Paul comes on the air, we have a hurricane of callers, our most call-ins ever, asking deep questions about his hair cut and Cheetos. In all fairness, some dudes ask some good questions about guitars and the band. Also, we talk about Dave Ellefson's new career reading people's resumes, Geek2Geek and more! We also have a few calls from the Googler, including something in the final minutes of the show that may have been too far! Here is this week's playlist, mostly picked by 3D:

THE RED CHORD - The Ugliest Truth
ANTHRAX feat. PUBLIC ENEMY - Bring The Noise
SUICIDAL TENDENCIES - Trip At The Brain
ENTOMBED - Left Hand Path
BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME - Fossil Genera - A Feed From Cloud Mountain
Plus the comedic stylings of Bill Hicks and Kumail Nanjiani

<itunes:summary>A lot of longtime fans of Metal Injection comment about how they miss the episodic format we had when we first started. We've evolved to a much bigger site than just weekly episodes, but when we started the FiX it was to try to continue the format of those early episodes in terms of showcasing sweet music videos. Well, for this Halloween, since it is the most metal of all holidays we thought we'd do a Halloween special in the tradition of our zombie special and our slasher special. (Wow, I can't believe they were done so long ago). This year's Halloween special takes the Creep Show format of telling three separate tales focusing on Rob, Frank and Noa. Also, all three of them and Sid and 3D each picked a music video to air on the episode. Can you guess who picked what? It's not really that difficult.

You can stream the episode right now at this location. If you'd like to download the hi-res version of the podcast, click here, or if you would like to subscribe to our podcast, you can do so via iTunes or RSS</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Secrets were revealed on this edition of the Metal Injection Livecast. We start the podcast discussing Noa setting up a profile for Sid on a geeky dating site. That opens up a whole can of worms with the rest of the Livecast crew. Then, we discuss Dave Mustaine being a baby about METALLICA and end off the show as we always do, talking about porn and bodily functions. The conversation was so good we went 15 minutes past the two hour mark, because this stuff was too good to stop talking about. If you listened live, make sure to listen to the archive because you don't want to miss this. Here is this week's playlist:
CONVERGE - Cutter
AKIMBO - You Can Hear The Honey
HELLNATION - This Is Progress?
THE CHARIOT - Before There Was Atlanta, There Was Douglasville
BLACK SHIPS - The Flaws In Self Help
LORDS - Man, Everything Sucks
MAGRUDERGRIND - Fools Of Contradiction
BOTCH - Japam
AGORAPHOBIC NOSEBLEED - Glass Tornado
VICTIMS - How Could I Lie?
CURSED - Negative Two Point Five
GRAF ORLOCK - Dutch and the Demon
BUCKET FULL OF TEETH - Lost Keys

<itunes:summary>For our second episode we look at another side of epicness. Prior to entering the studio we heard the call of the Northern Forests. Mounting our glorious steeds, we rode deep into the mountains of Santa Cruz until we came upon the Pagan Circle (no really, there is one). After slaughtering the dirty hippies within the surrounding area, we used their blood to channel the Gods of Old. Thus did Odin call down to us from Valhalla, commanding that we dedicate the next Epicast to him and the glory of Asgard with only the best Folk, Pagan and Viking Metal.

<itunes:summary>Is your iPod full of music from bands with swoopy hair and toothy publicity photos? Then you're probably not punk enough to handle The Kominas.

Based in Boston and NYC, this (cautiously) self-defined Punjabi punk band have become accidental media darlings thanks to their re-configuration of two seemingly incompatible cultural forms - punk rock and Islam. Muslim punk rockers? Well, sort of. And yes, it's as uncommon as it sounds.

In fact, the very first Islam-influenced punk bands existed only in a work of fiction - a novel called The Taqwacores by Michael Muhammed Knight. The Taqwacores may have been about an imaginary Muslim punk scene, but it rippled out into the real world, inspiring real-world kids to form real-world bands. The Kominas have been covered by CNN, MTV, Rolling Stone and various other mainstream outlets, but their story is often over-simplified, or botched all together.

Which is why, of course, you tune in to Issue Oriented. In one of the most compelling interviews we've ever featured, The Kominas and I talked about extremism, racism, Islam, punk, the media and so much more. Kominas members Shahjehan Khan and Basim Usmani, joined by Omar Waqar of Sarmust, lay it all out with a level of clarity that would certainly make most casual music fans at least a teensy bit uncomfortable. They also wonder aloud about when the day will come when people will be more interested in their music than their unusual story. Of course, those two things are inextricably linked, so it's complicated.

This episode of Issue Oriented is not to be missed!

LISTEN: Issue Oriented episode 48 with The Kominas

At the beginning of the show, we were joined by Ian Christe, author of Sound of the Beast: The Complete Headbanging History of Heavy Metal and Bazillion Points publishing and SiriusXM Bloody Roots DJ, who schools us with some metal knowledge about an upcoming metal cookbook, Sweedish kickers, and Hanoi Rocks. We are then joined by Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying/Austrian Death Machine who talks about his favorite Arnold movie, the recording of Austrian Death Machine. Both interviewees were questioned by one of our fans, affectionately known as The Googler. All that and Sid aurally molests Noa on this edition of the Livecast. Here is this week's playlist:

<itunes:summary>We have posted an all new edition of our bi-weekly music video podcast, The FiX. This week, we had the pleasure of being joined by GOJIRA vocalist Joe Duplantier, who picks five of his favorite videos which include choice cuts from METALLICA, TOOL, SEPULTURA, DESPISED ICON and a pretty sweet video from French band TREPALIUM (a band I've never heard of before).

During the course of the podcast we talk to Joe about various topics. He gives us some insight on what it is like opening for Metallica. Also, we find out that Gojira will be on break for 2010 and will return with new music in 2011. Finally, we get some hints that there will definitely be a new CAVALERA CONSPIRACY cd in the future!

Watch the episode now right here. If you'd like to download the hi-res version of the podcast, click here, or if you would like to subscribe to our podcast, you can do so via iTunes or RSS</itunes:summary>

We talk about jazz theory and jazz bands, Metallica liked by Monkeys, the odds of the Big 4 thrash bands touring, 14 years olds with deep voices, and we get a special appearance from one of our favorite guests, JCVD who has a very big announcement for us that was shocking. <itunes:summary>Your good friend Issue Oriented just ordered you a double. Enjoy:

John Nolan (Straylight Run, ex-Taking Back Sunday) stopped by to talk and play. We discuss everything from Christian death metal to Long Island to food. Of course, we also talked about his new solo release Height (due this October) and all sorts of artsy stuff, too. And hey, remember that world premiere we gave you a few days ago, of John Playing "I Don't Believe You"? Well this episode includes the entire performance - an Issue Oriented exclusive.

Then you'll hear my interview with Billy Hamilton of Silverstein. We talked about navigating shifts in pop culture, the unshakable influence of one's home-town scene, stupid hair, the band's recent release A Shipwreck In the Sand, and much more.

And hey, did you notice the new IssueOriented.com? We've made a bunch of changes to the site. Most obviously, we have a new logo and look for the site. We added a videos page, and made some much-needed improvements to navigation for the news and blogs. We also combined all of our previously separate blogs into a single blog that will be updated by our regular contributors. There's more, and more to come - but right now what's important is you. Go. Fulfill your destiny:

<itunes:summary>We tried something new on this edition of the Livecast, a live chat as the show was going on. Whether it was a good idea or a bad one, we don't know yet. We get a few random callers including a dude holding a dolphin hostage, some party animals in Oklahoma, a young dude in India who listens to our show live on Saturday mornings and (completely randomly) Jonny from Job For A Cowboy. Also, we were joined by "Joey Jordinson" on Slipknot fame, we learn about Rob's teen years, Zakk Wylde's urination habits, ordering weed online and much much more. Here is this week's playlist:

NINE INCH NAILS - Piggy (Nothing Can Stop Me Now)

<itunes:summary>Faster than you can say "neon shutter shades," Issue Oriented is back with a brand new invention. This time it's episode 46, featuring Cobra Skulls. With their music having been compared to everything from classic bands like The Ramones and The Misfits, to modern acts like Against Me!, there is more to this Reno band than initially meets the eye.

Learn how Cobra Skulls' tongue-in-cheek approach to catchy punk rock means serious business: like Iraq War vet who got a DUI on purpose, so he could get discharged; a controversial chapter in the evolution of Los Angeles; the end of free water, and what it means to you. All of this from an infectious punk band called Cobra Skulls.

After you listen, call (201) ISSUE-99 and let us know what you think!

<itunes:summary>On this Robless edition of the METAL Injection LIVEcast everything went smoothly and wasn't covered in pot resin or melted cheese. Coincidence? We discussed our true feelings about Rob in song "Robert Stay in Europe".nbsp; We talked about Sid banging prostitutes, Darren's Bar-Mitzvah and Noa's trip to Jewtown . Our better smelling less scary looking Rob, Loni, continued pandering to our audience by wearing a Rockford, Illinois specific t-shirt. We also did an impromptu version of Thrash it or Trash it where the best band had a dog for a lead singer. Maybe next week we can get the dog to be Rob's replacement!

Featured on this Mixtape is our game show Death or No Death, JCVD flirting with Noa, Slayer tributes, the schoovgie buzzer, Rob Announcer Guy and much more. You'll laugh until the rash on your dick clears up. I don't know what that means eitherbut I do know you should check out this mixtape.

<itunes:summary>With all kinds of craziness in the air, Issue Oriented is kicking off an avalanche of content from now through October. To start things off with a bang, we're stoked to present episode 45, featuring Frank Turner. Frank stopped by as he passed through while on tour with The Offspring, and we talked about a number of things - from the constant connectivity of Twitter and Facebook, to playing 24 shows in 24 hours for the filming of a music video; and lots more. Great stuff.

Then Frank played three songs in the Issue Oriented studio - two come from his September 2009 release Poetry of the Deed; the third, "Pass It Along", is previously unrecorded and unreleased - originally intended for the new album, it didn't make the final track listing. Don't worry, though - your boy Issue Oriented has you covered. Click the player above, or just hit us up in iTunes.

Don't forget to check out videos of this episode's performances on YouTube.

PLUS: We're happy to announce the return of the Issue Oriented Hotline! Call our brand new number - (201) ISSUE-99 - with comments, requests, and whatever is on your mind. You might even wind up on the next episode of the show! That number again is (201) ISSUE-99.

Enjoy the new episode - it's a goody.

<itunes:summary>So Rob and Noa decided to be cunts this week and have "other plans". Rob is at the Brutal Truth/Pig Destroyer/Repulsion show, and Noa decided to go to Israel. So we semi-proudly present to you another Metal Injection LiveCast Mixtape. This compilation features troubled teens, sex toys, washed up metal singers, soon-to-be-washed-up metal guitarists, hard drugs, radio personalities and perverted game shows. So yeah, it's basically like every other show we've ever done, but more tightly edited. You're welcome.

Note: We will be off the air again next week as Noa will still be in Europe and Rob will be in Europe as well so there will be another mixtape. If you have a request for a bit we should include, leave it in the comments. We will be back with a live episode on August 14th.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>It's pretty clear that the stars of this week's edition of the Metal Injection Livecast were the callers. On this very eventful edition of the 'cast, we're joined for the whole show by our brotha from anotha motha, Axl Rosenberg of MegaSluts.gov. Axl is in charge of all the music played on the show with the exception of the Ja Rule and Metallica collaboration, which Axl has never heard until we graced him with it. Stopping by later in the show was THOR SHREDSTEEN who brought his "main squeeze" Antanella not to be confused with Bernadette. Expect appearances from Zakk Wylde harmonics, malevolent murders, bad tributes to Michael Jackson and more. Here is this week's playlist:

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER - A Selection Unnatural
COALESCE - The Purveyor of Novelty and Nonsense
DAATH - Wilting On The Vine

<itunes:summary>Friends, as summer beams down on you from above, beat the heat - get something cool. Something refreshing. Get Episode 44 of Issue Oriented (the podcast).

David Moore (ex-Chamberlain/Split Lip) stops by to talk about his new release My Lover, My Stranger, his approach toward song writing, post-emo and much more. He is joined by fellow Chamberlain alum Adam Rubenstein, who also accompanies Moore on two songs played live in the Issue Oriented studio. It's a stirring performance to say the least, and we're proud to have it. (You can see a video of one of the songs here.)

Then Justin Brannan (Most Precious Blood, Howard Stern, Bear Stearns) dishes on New York City, options paralysis, comfort zones, folk music, stock brokering, and a million other things. An energetic exchange with host Ronen Kauffman, to say the least.

PLUS! Hear the world premiere of new music from Most Precious Blood's upcoming full length, Do Not Resuscitate, due later this year.

PLUS! The debut of a new segment - Influence Oriented, with correspondent Zack Shapiro. This installment features New Jersey's Let Me Run.

Tune in and get your awesome on. It's Issue Oriented episode 44.</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>Tomorrow night, we will present a very special 4th of July Eve Edition of the METAL INJECTION LIVECAST. One of the segments on the show will be Sexual Jeopardy. What is Sexual Jeopardy? No, it's not what Michael Jackson found himself in after sucking off a 12-year-old. It's like the game show Jeopardy, except all the questions are about names for various filthy sex acts. So I guess it sorta is Michael Jackson-related after all. The first time we played this game, it became our most listened to show. We expect you fucks to break that record when we present Sexual Jeopardy part 2 LIVE tomorrow night at 10pm Eastern / 9pm Central right here!</itunes:summary>

<itunes:summary>During last week's edition of the Metal Injection Livecast we got a surprise phone call from one of our good friends, Jose Mangin of Sirius/XM. Jose, of course, has been doing a bit of hosting on Headbangers Ball so the conversation naturally went in that direction with us asking what his status is. What Jose said has spurred a ton of stories online (first reported at SMN, followed up at MetalInsider and then on MetalSucks). With all the rumors going around, we figured we would take the convo and extract all the talk about Headbangers Ball, so all of you who missed the Livecast can hear the below. Jose talks about the proposed new format and when we could see it start to happen. Note that we edited out some of the conversation in between the segments to just focus everything on the talk about the new show.

As we mentioned above, MetalInsider talked to Jose and he "he denies any official full-time launch of the show or his place in it" later adding "He does promise that some plans are in the works for ldquo;Headbangers Ballrdquo; in 2010, in some incarnation."

Don't miss an all new edition of the Livecast, tomorrow night at 10pm Eastern time right here and always available for download on our iTunes page.</itunes:summary>
