Best of 2010
Sean's Last Minute Top 10 Albums of 2010
By: Sean Gresens
Sorry to keep anyone waiting, but this is when I like to reflect on the past year: the final day of the year. I feel like I would be doing myself and you loyal MI Junkies a disservice to thrust a "best of" on you a month before the actual end of the year… OR … This shitbird gots lazy and put it off til now. I'll let you draw your own conclusions. Regardless, here is my, and what I can assume is the final, Best Of for the site… squeaking in at the 11th hour of 2010. I won't bore you with elaborate yarns about why these albums made me happy in my swimsuit area, because lets be honest, with these bands it would probably be shorter to listen to five of their songs than read about them. So, without further fanfare, I present my Top 10 Albums of 2010… In rapidfire tweet form… 140 characters or less… Just how attention spans for this shit like it. (more…)

Noa's Better Late Than Never Top 10 Albums of 2010

The year is almost over, and this entry will be the final one in our Best of 2010 series as Noa checks in with her picks for the Top Albums of the Year.
By: Noa Avior
I always feel uneasy about compiling a top list of my favorite "something or other". I never really want to dedicate myself to these lists because well, let's face it, I'm a girl and the things I like change with my daily hormone shiftings. Also, I feel that my fellow Metal Injection comrades covered some of the great releases of 2010. The problem is that they only covered SOME and since Brooklyn looks like it's buried in a bag of flour I will take this opportunity during my day off to represent for some of the neglected releases that moved me this year. Grim Kim's Top 10 Releases of 2010 That You've Never Heard Of
by: "Grim" Kim Kelly
Hello again, Metal Injection! It’s been awhile (my bad) but I’ve returned to ruin everyone’s day with yet another year-end list. Are you guys sick of those yet? I definitely am, and I’m not even done submitting all of mine. Unlike everyone else on the fucking planet, though, mine will not be making mention of Deftones, Kylesa, Overkill, or even Enslaved, because 1. I think those bands are boring, 2. I don’t care about their new records, and 3. every other self-styled music critic in the blogosphere has already spewed a few gallons short of an oil spill’s worth of virtual ink all over them. Instead, I’ve followed the blueprint from last year’s list and cobbled together a handful of my favorite underground, unheralded, and willfully obscure releases from 2010. Read ‘em and weep.
In no particular order: (more…)

Picking my personal Top 10 list ended up being much harder than I thought it would be. Before I started compiling the list, I feared I wouldn't even have 10 albums I remembered liking this year. After sorting through all my music, I found the opposite to be true. I could easily write a Top 30 list, but the headline wouldn't be as catchy, so I forced myself to pick 10 albums. Ultimately, it came down to which albums I listened to the most and was blown away by the most. Here is what I ended up with: (more…)

10. Mose Giganticus – Gift Horse
"A one man synth punk band" may sound like a joke to some, but I assure you there is nothing funny about the talented song writings of Matt Garfield. Between his unique vocal style, excellent relationship between harmony and groove, and some of the most clever use of a keyboards I've heard in years, this was an easy pick for my top 10. Gift Horse is such a fun record that really lends itself to any mood you may be in. Whether you're angry, happy, horny, or constipated this record has what you need! (more…)

Top 10 Funny Metal Videos of 2010

As the year is comes to a close, we will be taking you through the Best of 2010. Over the next couple of days, expect top 10 album lists from most of our writers, as well as the top stories & videos of the year. We will now take you through the funniest viral clips of the year. The order was determined by the amount of hits the videos received, the shareability as well as the overall hilarity of the clip. Here we go:
1) Betty White Goes Death Metal
Without a doubt, this was #1, both in views and "horns up." The clip, which originally aired on the Mother's Day episode of Saturday Night Live featured the entire cast signing the theme of The Golden Girls to Betty and her reciprocating with a crushing death metal cover. Everybody loves Betty White, even metalheads! (more…)

As the year is comes to a close, we will be taking you through the Best of 2010. Over the next couple of days, expect top 10 album lists from most of our writers, as well as the top stories & videos of the year. These are the top 10 stories of 2010. Please note, these are not ranked or in any sort of order. These are just the 10 stories we found to have the biggest impact in 2010:
Big Four of Thrash Jam Out To Am I Evil?
Without a doubt, this was the biggest moment of the year. This had everybody talking. After months of hype, the Big Four played a handful of festivals in Europe over the summer, and at the last date, with the cameras rolling for a DVD, representatives from Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer joined Metallica on stage to jam on Diamondhead's classic thrasher "Am I Evil?". If you were living under a rock, you can watch the performance here. As for the future, the bands have already committed to a UK festival, with rumors highly suggesting that the package is finally going to come to the states. (more…)

10. Hour of Penance – Paradogma
It seems like Italy has been stealing some Scandinavian thunder lately when it comes to breeding quality metal bands. Accompanying acts such as Fleshgod Apocalypse and Graveworm, Hour of Penance have been responsible for giving their boot-shaped homeland a reputation for more than just good food and women with mustaches. Hour of Penance have been shelling out some of the most aggressive and finely-crafted brutal death metal for over a decade, and Paradogma is no exception. (more…)

Don't forget, you can still submit your Top 10 album list to be included in the overall Top Albums As Decided by the Metal Injection Junkies list.
By Ben Apatoff
It's no secret that the album as we know it is dying. Filesharing and digital media players are making the art of the finely-crafted full-length obsolete, and artists are complying. But as concepts like "track listings," "liner notes" and "release dates" plunge towards extinction, the artists that dedicate themselves to putting together a great collection of songs become all the more valuable. In a time where good albums (and good metal) are increasingly rare, these artists deserve more respect than ever.
