METAL MASTERS 4 in New York City To Feature PHIL ANSELMO, KERRY KING, SCOTT IAN, DAVE LOMBARDO and more

The last time the Metal Masters got together it was the night after the Revolver Golden Gods Awards and there was a ton of jamming, including Pantera tunes and a surprise appearance by Geezer Butler for some Black Sabbath jammage. You can watch footage from that show here. Good news for metalheads in the tri-state area, The Metal Masters clinics are coming back to New York City!

On September 7th at The Gramercy, the metal elite consisting of Philip Anselmo (Pantera/Down), Kerry King (Slayer), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Scott Ian (Anthrax), Charlie Benante (Anthrax), Frank Bello (Anthrax) and newly added masters Billy Sheehan and Gary Holt (Exodus/Slayer) will be jamming out and spreading some knowledge. The way these have worked in the past, is a few of the masters come out for some playthroughs and some anecdotal advice for musicians and then it all gets bigger and bigger with a shit-ton of jamming, usually with an unannounced guest stopping by.

CURL UP AND DIE Are Coming Back!

I am all about Curl Up and Die! They were quite amazing, but unfortunately broke up in 2005. I remember wearing a curlupanddie shirt to a family function and kept getting asked by distant family members if I was depressed or why I was being so confrontational? I had to explain that the message on my shirt was really of a band I appreciated. You have to admit, it's a great name for an metallic hardcore band.

Recently, with all the hoopla about the Revelation Records 25th anniversary shows, I got really excited over postings that listed the band as reforming for the shows.  But then, my buddy Rich Hall had to burst my bubble saying they were not going to be playing these shows. I believed Rich, because after all, the band named a song after him. I was bummed because I was so excited to finally get to see these guys. Well, turns out I can turn that frown upside down as the band released the following statement to Lambgoat about their reformation:

Whoa, Check Out This Guitar DIMEBAG DARRELL Made For SCOTT IAN

When I saw the headline "DIMEBAG MADE SCOTT IAN A JEW GUITAR" on MetalSucks, and clicked on it, I was expecting a trolling, but… it's real! I've seen some killer guitars before, a cocaine guitar, a bong guitar and a machine gun guitar but this is a new level of awesomeness.

Check out this sweet custom Washburn that Dime made the Anthrax guitarist, complete with a Star of David on the confederate flag design in tribute to Ian being one of the chosen people (birth name: Scott Ian Rosenfeld). Ian tweeted the photo with the message "Being in Dallas always reminds me of Darrell. He made me this years ago. 'Nuff said…" This is one of sweetest guitars I've ever seen. TRIVIUM's Bassist's Grandma Watches From The Side Of The Stage; Does NOT Get In The Pit!

Yes, that lady in the thumbnail is the grandmother of Trivium bassist Paolo Gregoletto. Unlike most of Gregoletto's family, she still loves in her native land of Italy, and I'm assuming doesn't get to see her grandson that often. Clearly, she's proud of her grandson because she wanted to see what all the fuss about Trivium was about, so she decided to attend one of their festival appearances in Italy at the Gods of Metal festival and sat at the side of the stage, keeping watch. Here's Audio of BLACK SABBATH's ENTIRE Download Festival Performance

Now this is a way to kick off the weekend. Last Sunday, the godfathers of heavy metal, Black Sabbath closed out the Download Festival with, by all accounts of friends and tweeters who were there, an incredible performance and I was dying to hear what they sounded like. Looks like I don't have to wait any longer, as one kind Youtuber uploaded audio of their entire performance. Bless Youtube, and bless this kind soul who found soundboard audio of the performance. A Masked James Hetfield Watches MASTODON From The Pit

It's safe to say that James Hetfeild is the coolest member of Metallica, and basically one of the coolest motherfuckers alive. The dude likes peforming for gnomes and the dude loves his heavy metal. Case in point, Metallica played Rock in Lisboa festival in Lisboa, Portugal a few weeks ago, and Mastodon was playing the bill as well. Rather than watch from the side of the stage, like some sort of VIP, James opted to go in the pit, like a real metalhead. Now obviously, a guy of Hetfield's fame would get malled if he went out into a public setting at a show, so he needed a disguise. Turns out he had the perfect disguise. (more…)

In a late Friday awesome news break, both Lambgoat and ThePRP are reporting that Lamb of God have cemented their summer touring plans with two killer bands opening: the mighty Dethklok and muthafuckin' Gojira. Not only does this man front one of the most phenomenal bands in metal history (Iron Maiden, duh) and fly airplanes up in the God damn sky, he now could also be your future employer! So OLD MAN GLOOM Is Releasing New Music After All

Those lying mother fuckers! Last year, mega-producer and Converge guitarist, Kurt Ballou let it slip that Old Man Gloom would be entering his Godcity studios to record a new album. I got really excited. Then, Kurt was all like syyyykkkeee!!! and I was really bummed. But, turns out it's a double-sykkkeee because the band DID actually record a new album, they just wanted to keep it under wraps because they wouldn't be able to tour to promote it until May, which heyyy, they did announce tour dates, so it totally makes sense. AGALLOCH Have Recorded A New EP

So many good albums, so little time. Seattle's Agalloch, who I fell in love with deeply a few years ago through their atmospherical opus Ashes Against The Grain and have constantly came back and been amazed by how huge this band sounds. Whenever there is a rain storm and I am in a shitty mood, the Agalloch goes blasting and suddenly I feel great. So I was really pumped when I saw that the band have FINISHED recording an EP. GOJIRA's To Release Roadrunner Debut In June

Yessssss!!!! Today is already a good day, because we have news of new Gojira music! The band has just announced on their official website that they will be releasing their new album, their first on Roadrunner Records, on June 26th. Help Make MAYHEM's Euronymous The Next Face Of Norwegian Air!

Oh, silly Norwegian Airlines. Did they really think they would'n't be trolled when they set up a public vote asking customers to pick a famous Norwegian historical figure to paint on their aircrafts in celebration of their 10th anniversary. Guess who is currently sitting at #1? Øystein Aarseth, more famously known as the murdered frontman of Mayhem, Euronymous. The voting ends tomorrow, so do your part and bring the black metal to the skies! It will be interesting to see if Norwegian Air actually goes through with it.
