Whoa, gotta love drama like this.
As part of AV club's column "Hatesong," they got musician Matt Pike to pick his least favorite song, and Matt Pike basically went off on Aerosmith, namely their awful song "Dude Looks Like A Lady." Here is the best part of his whole rant: (more…)
This is not a fun story to write about.
Gaza frontman Jon Parkin has been accused of raping a woman. (more…)
It's been an eventful week for For Today. After taking to Twitter and mentioning that "homosexuality is a sin," For Today guitarist Mike Reynolds received a tsunami of backlash from other metal musicians and peers alike.
Today, we learn that Reynolds has left the band to become a missionary in the middle east with his wife. (more…)
For Today have been under a sea of controversy, since last night's tweet outburst by guitarist Mike Reynolds condemning homosexuality as a sin. The band tried to play spin control by releasing a message, but I'm not sure if this makes things any better: (more…)
Moshing… it can be fun, but lately I personally find it to be more of nuisance. I want to see the band, so I try to get up close, but I can't stand too close to the center, because a pit will break out. And, the last thing I want is to be punched in the face. I want to actually enjoy the band.
Looks like vocalist J.D. Cronise of The Sword agrees with me. (more…)
Mike Portnoy takes drumming very seriously. And, can you blame him? He's regarded as one of the top modern drummers out there right now. Mike is currently doing some overseas shows with a band consisting of Billy Sheehan, Tony MacAlpine and Derek Sherinian. At a recent stop in Manilla, Phillipines, Mike's drums were not set up correctly and this is not good for the drum techs, because Mike was pissed… so pissed that he got on the mic and started signing about how pissed he was. Here's some video: (more…)
We were shocked and bummed yesterday, to learn that Cattle Decapitation had dropped off their tour with Six Feet Under due to an altercation where, according to Cattle Decap. frontman Travis Ryan, Chris Barnes of Six Feet Under 'sucker punched' him. Read our initial story here to get up to spped. Now that both parties have had a day to cool their heads, new information has surfaced. Both dudes have given further elaboration to their side of the story. So, let's dive into it: (more…)
CATTLE DECAPITATION Drop Off SIX FEET UNDER Tour After Vocalist Allegedly "Sucker Punched" By Chris Barnes
Touring can be a stressful situation. If you're touring as direct support for Six Feet Under, there may be extra stresses of working with vocalist Chris Barnes. A few months ago, we were pretty excited at the thought of Six Feet Under hitting the road with Cattle Decapitation for the Autumn Apocalypse tour, but now it looks like it may all be over.
Earlier this morning, Cattle Decapitation frontman Travis Ryan posted a status to his personal Facebook page that announced the band was dropping off the tour, and that he was not feeling too favorable towards SFU vocalist, Chris Barnes. His status in full: (more…)
If there is one thing Oderus Urngus loves doing, it's talking shit! He's done so before, most famously with Dave Mustaine, and in our most recent interview with the band. Now, he's set his sights on the likes of Rob Zombie and Slipknot. He thinks both bands are copying GWAR's style, stating in a recent interview: (more…)
It's always exciting when two people with a lot of money get pissed at each other over very trivial circumstances. Such is the case with Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie, who are both on a co-headlining tour currently, and things are not going swimmingly. Apparently, the two are dueling over set times. Oh, the tragedy! (more…)
Yngwie Malmsteen is a guitar virtuoso, who, like many musicians, is very much against illegal file sharing. For some reason, this topic has come back into the news cycle, with the recent revelation that Century Media plans to sue people who downloaded some albums illegally. Anyway, Yngwie was asked recently about his thoughts on illegal downloading, and shocker, he's not too happy about it. Here's what he told Classic Rock Magazine: (more…)
The Death To All Controversy has a new chapter of drama. Recently, we reported that fans in Atlanta and Dallas have been complaining about not receiving refunds, and Death's estate manager pointing the blame squarely on the promoters at Sick Drummer Magazine. SickDrummer released a statement saying that it was a misunderstanding, and that everybody will get their refunds, and money will be donated to the charity. It's been a few weeks now, and with questions still lingering, the late Death founder Chuck Schuldiner's sister, Beth, chimed in on the SMNnews death metal forums to give her side of the story, and it's not looking good: (more…)
A few weeks back, we posted an image showing eery similarities between a new GAP shirt design and the classic Judas Priest album, Screaming For Vengeance . The GAP has since removed the design, as the link now points to something completely different. That's not stopping Rob Halford and company, who are considering a lawsuit. (more…)
The Death To All shows that happened in July were a landmark for death metal fans everywhere. I can't think of one person who didn't have glowing things to say about the shows. However, now that the dust has settled controversy has arisen.
Last week, there were reports surfacing online that fans who ordered tickets to the cancelled Atlanta and Dallas shows were not getting their refunds, that bands were not being paid and worse yet, the charity, Sweet Relief that this whole thing was set up for did not get a penny yet, and the blame was being placed on the show promoters, Sick Drummer Magazine.
Seeing as though there are two sides to any story, before we published anything, we wanted to get word from Sick Drummer. In the interest of full disclosure, we have worked with Sick Drummer in the past and we are both members of the Blast Beat ad network, and thus wanted to get his side, as we have had nothing but good dealings with him in the past and for me, personally, this seemed out of character. In the interest of fairness, since we did say that Phil Labonte gay married the NRA and had an abortion, after his most recent Twitter outburst against Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello, calling him a "communist and a fool" saying he "had the wool pulled over his eyes by the system." Apparently, Philly doesn't like it when the metal blogs attack him, but he can freely open his mouth on anybody he wants. Anyway, here is his statement, uninterrupted: (more…)
